What Would You have Done Differently in the Series?

I've looked for this topic and couldn't find it, so if it does exist, it's old news and there needs to be a new one. So simple question, what would have done differently if you worked on this series? What would you changed or improved on? Give a list, get creative. smilie
For me...

- Every resposed figure such as Series 2 would have a new upgrade path added to their character. If done as a Series 3, the Series 2 upgrade path would be replaced with a different one.

- Every character, regardless of what Series they are, could change their upgrade paths the same way Series 2+ can.

- Demo characters. Instead of spending money and risking buying a character you might hate (we've all bought a character we regret), there would be demo characters with a limit of 30 minutes to play as, and only select skills available to use.

- Of course.... online PVP. Up to four players. Free for all and team battle both as options, with leaderboards and matchmaking.

It was the Fans' Vision thread but that was before SC was announced,so it's outdated enough for some posters.

Demo characters are actually in the 3DS versions of TT and SF via streetpass, I believe.

Well,from what I can remember now - online PVP with proper balancing and possible tier/more complex fair match options, ingame palette swaps(maybe unlocked by reaching certain levels), every 20 levels you can permanently raise a stat but you're straight back to lv1,extra bosses that can be found by doing some crazy stuff in previous levels or a secret level that takes certain amount of Arena Challenge stars to open. On reposes,they'd only go until Series 3, one Wow Pow for each path; Gimmick-Reposes would be only given to characters that need new movesets badly.

All characters can change upgrade paths

SC issues - keep the cards, no engines on the bases

Online PVP and Co-Op from the start, but no voice chat unless you turn it on w/ friends

Dropping the Wii at Trap Team or Swap Force (as much as I like the console, it was already far outdated at the point of STT)

All adventure packs always work in later games similar to the first 4 in Giants

I love the idea of level resets and hidden superbosses and whatnot. I've been saying, I wish Skylanders was as huge as Diablo, since the two play similar. Those two things would really bring it close.

I also want unlockable.... gear? Little things you can remove and add to specific characters, similar to hats but not as ugly. Say... maybe three replacements for Hex's skulls, where one could be something goofy like smiley faces, iunno. lol. Every character would have two or three little things you can add to them like that. Some would replace the attack animation like Hex's skulls, and others would replace a part of their appearance, such as Chill's helmet, Chop Chop's shield, or Lightning Bolt's cloud.

(you can edit posts instead of doubleposting, CelesteInk. Other users get a 'new message' icon near the thread all the same)

Model changes probably would be asking too much for a series with over a 100 unique characters,but maybe a future gimmick could be figures with their own "mods",so to say;different weapons/acessories or articulation that allows for different poses.

I would have:

Only one repose per Skylander
Light and dark giant, 2 swappers, extra trap master, 7 cores and 2 lightcore
Better Wii Version. I'm sorry but Skylanders isn't as big as Xenoblade Chronicles and that supposedly looks fantastic, the Wii SSA and SG looked as good as XB360/PS3.
Release everything everywhere (UK never got S2 Drobot, LC Bumble Blast and God knows how many unreleased traps)
A movable camera. I like my camera so I can see all my enemies and I like it behind my character when moving. Let me move it to those positions when I want. Or at least make the camera better. Mario Galaxy 2 has a great camera angles. You can see everything and where you're supposed to be going.

I'm simply going to mention what I would have changed in this game since it's the one I feel has the majority of what I call the "if it isn't broken don't fix it" problems:

- Starter Pack would have included 2 new Skylanders and a vehicle;
- no reposes in any form;
- no guest stars (at least not console excluives);
- open-world game which would have encouraged the use of vehicles but not forced it;
- 10 vehicles, one per Element, based on generic feature from each Element and not on specific characters;
- 36 brand new Cores, 4 characters per Element excluding Light and Dark which would have only received 2 characters each. Each of the new and old characters would have enhanced the vehicles while driving them by infusing them with their own powers;
- Regular Elemental Gates;
- increased level cap up to 30;
- some form of Heroics/Bonus Missions playable by anyone;
- Quests;
- playable villains with 20 or so new villains to capture. All the traps would have been sold again along some new sculpts;
- 4 new Adventure Packs (maybe the old ones playable too?);
- regular pedestals (with a yellow trasparent base under them), regular artworks, a logo simile to the ones of the previous 4 games with the word "SuperChargers" written in yellow encased in a stylized arrow to symbolize speed and regular cards and stickers;

Everything else is fine (racing, vehicle arenas, online multiplayer, settings, designs) to me.

- Open world
- Online Pvp
- More adult approach
- Don't let disney infinity, nintendo and lego take my idea
- more humanoid characters
- deeper bio for characters
- No vehicles or at least a minor role for them
- create a drunk skylander so we can laugh a bit
- free flight
- Increase level cap
-make scratch, sunburn, flashwing, blades and spotlight fly
- exists 10 years before, when I was still a child
-more snow, blizzard and undead levels...instead of those "factory" and "futuristic" ones
- than you skylanders for all this good times

Drek and Angelg, I was thinking the same thing, but... not? About the open world. I like Skylanders being linear the way it is, but as I said on a different post, after Superchargers or whatever the sixth is, I would personally prefer it if they just started a whole new Skylanders series. Maybe a spin-off series or something, just starting from scratch. All new figures, none of the originals work on it (they could always continue making the core series of course), and an entirely new gameplay style. What I was thinking was open world. Still allow all characters to be different, still have the paths, but encourage exploring and discovering things, as well as the characters having equipment and whatnot. Wishful thinking, but nonetheless.

One I thing I would change about *this* series though, and there's so much that I couldn't remember it all at once... would be, while having heroic quests and/or bonus missions back, also have character exclusive mini-levels that may explain a thing or two about *that* character. The biographies are a great idea, and of course I want them to stay, but I've always thought each Skylander needed something to really focus on their story, even if small. I want to see Hex go from sorceress to Undead. I want to see Thumpback leave his pirate days. I want to see Jet Vac sacrifice his abilities to save others.

Soft reboot to fix the lore. Though I'd be going on about that for ages, so without rebooting the series... Err... There's a lot I'd change in every game so I'll just mention what I'd change in SC, restricting myself to gameplay/roster changes and not script ones (which would be a completely different rant, one that's not worth it since the game isn't out and there's a lot more we don't know about that aspect).

  • Vehicle sections are optional and lead to different ways through levels
  • No longer nessicary to keep a vehicle on the Portal at all times
  • PVP returns and gets an online mode
  • Multiplayer Survival modes get online as well
  • Tether is removed in co-op, at least online (it's confirmed the tether is still in online co-op, do a Google search and you should be able to find the source easily- it's straight from one of the developers in an article by Andy from FGTV and not some unreliable niche source.)
  • No random chests, collectables that can't fit in levels go in a shop
  • 20/30 new characters (2/3 per element) and 10 reimagined (1 per element, I wanted Blackout lol)
  • 9 vehicles (3 of each type- seems like a good number to have different options witout it being overwhelming or having too much fat)
  • Supercharging vehicles is no longer a thing (the matching designs are kind of cool but gameplay-wise it just seems pointless, plus it's annoying it forces it on you every time you match a character/vehicle and you have to switch the mods again, so I would much rather have less vehicles and more characters to matching characters/vehicles)
  • No "Superchargers" in general, the new cast is comprised completely of Cores
  • Regular Elemental Gates are back
  • Trophies are removed. Instead, scanning a Trap has essentially the same functions (but with the ability to race as any villain- determined by which is trapped, a track or two unlocked for each Element of Trap you scan, no races against the villains themselves but instead new NPCs)
  • Heroics and Quests return (no new Heroics since Giants, you find collectable maps to unlock them instead of getting them through expanding your collection)
  • All Location Pieces work and unlock their levels
  • I don't know what I would do about guest stars so I guess just keep them and change the starter packs so the Nintendo versions have Bowser and DK together and the other versions have Spitfire and Stealth Elf together (you'd still need three starters to get every variation but hey, that almost halves it)
  • Also, if keeping those, add Shulk and/or other Xenoblade party members as guest stars somehow, just because I'm biased and nothing on this list is happening anyway :p

I mean... What I honestly wanted was a continuation/expansion of the villain gimmick, because I think it was wonderful conceptually and just executed meh, but if I put that on this list I wouldn't even be musing about the same game.

Tether was kept since there's a big possibility of people in online just leaving other people stuck in puzzles by running ahead(not to mention the glitch potential if it's a point of no return in the level and you have players on either side), they said that for a while now.

If it ain't broke don't fix it, right? Reposes were FINE the old way, they may have went "too far" this time, but they are as much a part of the series as Alt Decos. From a marketing standpoint, if they didn't sell, they'd stop doing them, and they DEFINITELY wouldn't take it farther this time... You can HOPE revamps fail, but don't count reprints out completely even if that DOES come to pass.

You want a SIMILAR logo? What we HAVE is similar, what you want is the SAME logo. Why in yellow? SF wasn't written in blue and Spyro's adventure wasn't in Green. Nothing says they have to match the bases. Guys, next is purple based Skylanders; I'm calling it! What comes AFTER is a big question mark, but so long as they CONTINUE to use different bases, they have to worry less about color coding them. Since they're almost out of colors and TFB probably WON'T use new bases until they do.
I also don't see the sense in ALL of the old traps with some NEW sculpts... That's excessive. The amount of traps we already have is plenty.
And generic ones? I can tell you that when they do that, at least ONE Skylander per element feels left out, and that feels a HECK of a lot worse to FANS of that Skylander when they're the ONLY one who has to deal with it... It's ALWAYS worse to walk alone... Like, no matter WHAT I do, Cynder will never look right on a generic Undead Vehicle. It makes sense that we can't use traps anymore, Kaos, Golden Queen, Wolfgang, the Gulper, and Chompie Mage were all freed, so it's safe to say that our traps (and the vault [actually, I'm going to say that all the villains ended up in the vault after we were done in Trap Team, the Traps were emptied out into the vault.]) were emptied somehow. Or maybe just the vault

Never liked reposes.
NEVER.

To me they always took money and time which could have been used to create more/better new characters or improve the game.
But I always lived with them (yes even when SWAP Force forced me to get Ninja Stealth Elf) because they never crossed the line until now.

In this game they are part of the main focus, they have been completely reimagined and took the places of potentially new characters, they unlock special features and also have vehicles themed after them.
Nopity, nopity NO.
Not to mention they are still pushing the same all characters which have been reposed at least blah, blah, blah...

Since this whole topic is about what I would have personally changed and I frankly doubt any of those will eventually become reality, this is simply my own point of view an I'm absolutely fine if it doesn't meet everyone's tastes (just like Sleepy0429 which wrote "make it Nintendo exclusive" which would ruin the franchise but who am I to criticize his own vision of the series?).

Want to call it "the same"?
Ok let's call it "the same" (just like many users like to call SA, Giants and Trap Team "the same" while they absolutely aren't but, you know, they apparently have to change everything for some people to stop complaining it is the same, at the cost of screwing everything up).
I want the same logo as the past 4 games but tweaked as I said.
This one is ugly in my opinion and just disperately tries to scream "I'm new and shiny, look at me, I'm cool!".
Oh and Trap Team logo has the same color of the bases. smilie
Everything would work better than the same Giants' color scheme slightly tweaked and since yellow is the official SuperChargers' color... Why not?
It is usually associated with speed (and also hints at Light) so I'm all for it.

I mean release old traps between Waves so, since there would be new villains to capture, newcomers could choose their favorite sculpts among the old and the new ones.
The point of traps is not collecting all of them but simply chosing your favorites since all the traps from the same Element act the same (technically that would be the point of Skylanders too but I personally go for all of them since they do provide unique experiences).

Because my Pop Thorn won't definitely feel out of place on Jet Stream.
Yep.
Only a few characters actually match the currently vehicles (Zap on Reef Ripper? Ghost Roaster on Crypt Crusher? Stump Smash on Buzz Wing...?) so let's solve the problem and reduce costs by simply making 1 vehicle per element inspired by the features of that specific one (flaming wheels and solidified lava for Fire, ice and water for Water and so on) so that ALL the characters from that Element wouldn't feel that out of place when driving it.
Also as I said each Skylander would actually improve the vehicle abilities in a unique way and he/she could very well do so by also changing the look a bit to better represent himself/herself.

I didn't say it doesn't make sense to not have fully functional traps in the currently version of the game.
I simply said they would work in mine.
That would simply required a rather insignificant change in the Story.

Agree with celesteink about going deeper into the characters bios, that's something I've been suggesting for a while. They try to do that with the villains missions at trap tream where you would get to know them a bit more, but they implementation could have been a bit better. I'm curious to know more about my fav skylanders like how Knight Light became the protector of the Star Light or how Bat Spin did get separated from her people. Including unlockable info as a simple messages just liky flynn quotes at TT would be welcome. Comics have a lot of potential in this context, but I don't know how far they will go with that.

Also agree with most of the things that Arc of Archive has pointed out, especially with the villains continuation. I also adore that idea of playing as the dark side of Skylands. Uncloking villains vehicles is a bit meh for my taste.

Agree with Drek that reposes (even the "new" reposes at SSC) take the place of new skylanders who could have been great in their own way. I Still want to see a gargoyle and a sparrow man in my skylander collection, and the 1,000,000,000 version of stealth elf msy have ruined that.

It's kind of one reason that in other topics, I've said how badly I want Flynn, Tessa, and a few NPC's join the Skylanders, get their own figures, and become playable. I understand this would mean less story for Flynn, very possibly, but in a way... it's a good thing. As we agreed on, we want to see the backstories of our characters get fleshed out... and since we know the backstories of Flynn, Tessa, and any other NPC, we could get a certain vibe of attachment playing as them. I understand Flynn is technically the main character of the story, but I wouldn't mind him passing the torch to a new NPC, as long as we could actually play as him.

The big problem here is the missed opportunity. Flynn and Tessa specifically are known for something they ride. Flynn's airships, and Tessa's bird. They could have fit right at home in Superchargers. I honestly thing it would have been better if instead of ten revamped characters, we got ten NPC's... or lore-related characters.

-Never dropped PvP

-Would have a remake in the works for the first two games on one disk with a Dark Giant packaged in that allows all corelanders figures to work in both and a pair of new Giants to fill the light/dark holes

-Rotated more Villians into the games like the 3DS versions. Kaos is a fun villian, but he doesn't need to be the Villian always, just like the x-men aren't always fighting magneto, though he popped up constantly.

-Develop games that vary the gameplay more then just release a new non-sense gimmick (capturing the Villians and putting them in jail cool.....controlling them like Pokemon is dumb. The special abilities on the swappers for the bonus stages is cool.......actually swapping the parts and isolating those characters and curbing reposes and character development is lame). Gameplay ideas would could be a MUA 4-man team style for a game that focuses on individual characters ad the missions require you to use a specific lander (Gill Grunt searching for his mermaid, fryno battling his gang, trolls attack and Terrafin tells Drill Seargent not to attack them....so of course he wanders off and does). The starter game could come with levels involving the starter characters, and each character you buy in that line would add an extra level with story (an expansion of the heroics from the first two games).

-Recycle gimmicks if you must have them. Give the Giants another game doing more with them and releasing more. In particular significant gameplay gimmicks. We should get a Superchargers 2 in four years IMO.
---
Glad heroic challenges are gone. Imagine doing 165 per skylander. That's 27225 challenges. No thank you.
