So, here's something I've been mentioning there and there but decided to create a topic so maybe it'll get more attention(maybe even from Activision support if they still show up around here). Last year, the On-the-go Tablet version of Trap Team had digital versions of the starter pack stuff(both skylanders and traps); looking at the footage on youtube, you'd switch between skylanders and villains by tapping their icons on the screen, but when you had a portal plugged in, you had to use your own figures.
Now here's the doubts with the Digital Owners version of Superchargers - being in the console version, there's no obvious way to switch between characters by tapping for most of the consoles; maybe the WiiU,3DS and PS4 if at all. Sure, you can solve that with a menu option, but then there's the other problem - if this version is paid, there's no Starter Pack you can refer to for full use of the figures... So if you plug in an older portal, will it force you to use physical figures only, or digital? A certain person who needs to import all of her figures will have to play with Instant Spitfire and Hot Streak only for the first month, or will they all be active? And then with the mechanics of online play showing up - if the portal has to lock up on a vehicle pair or more to play it, will Instants be allowed at all?
Might be sounding a bit like a broken record at this point, but after a thread I'll probably not need to say it anymore unless it manages to sink to page 2 in record time. This is pretty much the first time I'll have a shot at playing the game at launch, and I really don't want to have a nasty surprise when it comes out. Sure, the price would be also nice to know, but it wouldn't matter being cheap if in the end I'd have to buy my own Land vehicle shipping and everything.
(if this doesn't get answered until release, it'd probably be fine to bump it next month once someone has actually experimented with the version)

Speaking logically and without knowledge...but I suspect there will be an easy option on screen to access the instant characters, while being able to use your portal at will. I suspect it will be an either or proposition, and as soon as it recognizes the portal you'll need to use physical figures.

Wonder if we can use instant Spitfire as P1 and another figure as P2?

Yeah. Thinking about it gives me qualms...
Maybe it is just the idea that if I want to use the digital Hot Streak to race online, I will likely be forced to use the digital Spitfire. That is, if it really does lack compatibility while a portal is connected. But, to say that is the case; then what happens when you are playing the story mode and the digital Spitfire dies? Is it as simple as plugging in a portal? If it is at a vehicle level, do you have to start the level over? Oh well. Not much longer until release. Might as well put off my worry until I am better informed. |

From what I understand, we are offerred a Portal Owner Pack, meaning we need the Portal to play on console. Maybe when you are asked to place a toy on the portal, that's when you can decide to play with the Instant characters?

You don't need one, which is why they changed the name to Digital Owners. According to interviews, you can choose to use a portal or not, but they didn't specify if you can choose between both instants and physical - and there's still the issue of how you'd choose to switch P1-P4 into Instant Spitfire; unless there's a button for it in the portal screen like co-op drop-out. But really, the biggest worry is on Instant Hot Streak. Now that you need a vehicle "on" the portal at all times, and technically I won't have one until well into October, I'd be very frustrating to find out that having a portal plugged in at all might lock my other figures out of the game.

I'm pretty sure you're just overthinking things, really doubt they would release the digital version that way, you'll probably be fine.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more backlash against this like there was for Tron with Infinity. Having digital characters goes against EVERYTHING this game stands for and represent. Doing what they did in Giants was smart. Superchargers should not include any characters at all. Cheaper price and starter pack characters available in limited quantities separately at retailers for digital owners and Wii players.
But overall yea, they should have gone the Giants route, imo. |

Well, I can't complain myself even if I know digital characters is really against the physical DLC concept. Again, with this I don't need to wait several months and/or pay ridiculous import tax. Even if I get figures+CD loose I'd still be horribly behind the forum and even miss out in some events next month - digital version means as long as it shows up on eShop I'm in.
It'd be nice if the starter packs still got released in Brazil and not 5 months after international release, but that ain't happening unfortunately. Quote: jesse217
I hope so, but some reaaally unintuitive choices have been in the series before,so I'm mostly afraid, I guess.

I prefer the one with the newest Portal instead. Much easier than the Digital Owner's.

The tablet version of Trap Team and Superchargers should have allowed you to buy digital characters for like a buck each. Think about it, with 254 characters that's 254 dollars per customer, for those who want to play as each character.
It also gives true meaning to the word on the go. Spyros Adventure and Giants on 3DS should have adopted this, before the developers got smart with Swap Force and Trap Team on 3DS, by allowing you to play with your characters on the go, by registering them once. Ooooooor, they should do that with TT, SC, and any other tablet Skylanders going forward.mregister figures, can select them from a menu at anytime to play on the go.

The main problem with that on tablet is that the files would be even bigger. The on-the-go version already eats through batteries with just 4 characters, imagine every 'lander and villain.

You already had to have the files for them to work. The characters didn't just appear just because you loaded them from the figure. You had to download the content to the tablet when you put a figure on. My son took his tablet and some of his Skylanders with him on a trip. We thought we had downloaded the full game, but I guess we didn't because he tried putting his figures on the portal, and the only ones that would work were those he had played with before. Every time you put a Skylander on the portal, you had to download the content to the tablet from online. Once you loaded the Skylander, the content was already on your device. When you put the Skylander on again, it just loaded the content that was already saved. So every time you put a character on the portal, that space is already being taken up. Why not be able to access it instantly while you are on-the-go? |

Huh, thought it was like the recent 3DS versions where you can register at any time outside of a level to add them to the list. Yeah, in that case it'd be possible.
