I think they should've gone with a character that ISNT in 4 out of the 6 different starter packs. I'd love to get him, but I dont think I'd need to have two different variants of the same character.

He does look nice, I will admit. Do we know if we're getting a Nitro Hot Streak to match?

It is expected. Nitro theme really goes well with the Superchargers concept. However, there is one thing - they cannot make the Nitros significantly faster, otherwise online will be dominated by people using Nitros.

I'll bet there will be a second Nitro as well in the March timeframe. Now we just need to see about Legendaries.

Personally not doing variants this year, but others will probably enjoy them.
