They said that they're not planning to release them in single packs to avoid people buying them and not being able to use them in their game, as they're obviously only playable on Nintendo consoles.

(Of course, a simple "works only on Wii U, Wii and 3DS" label should have worked, but I guess it's smarter to assume that customers will be clueless.)

I guess they could change their mind in the future, but I wouldn't count on it. They want amiibo collectors and Nintendo fans to pick up the game, not just the separate figurines, after all. That's the entire point of the crossover.

The sad thing is, if they do assume that, I wouldn't blame them if they did. I mean, remember how many times they had to explain to people that the new characters from Trap Team won't work in Swap Force?

The confusion will only come if people refuse to read, and in that case it's their own fault. They work as both, you just have to flip the figure over and change the label on the bottom.

Although they would be extremely appreciated, no. Most likely because they didn't want scalpers scalping them to, since they are part amiibo.

I don't mind if they never get released as singles, but I do hope they produce enough starter packs for each that there are plenty in circulation. Out of all the Skylanders and Amiibo that have ever been made, these are the ones I least want to become rare.

They won't be more then $75 (cost of the starter pack) + shipping...unless the starter pack itself becomes hard to find. I'd say that's unlikely, since Activision doesn't want to make the razor scarce and miss out on all the blade sales. Of course, it's difficult to judge the demand for the packs with amiibo collectors in the market.

I plan to buy six starters for all the figures I will then sell of the extras. If the kaos trophy is anything like the ultimate kaos trap last year most money will be made back on that alone.

If DK and Bowser become available as single packs, which I highly doubt they will, I'd definitely get one of my favorite Super Mario villains. DK maybe the first Skylander with five fingers (on each hand) and five toes (on each foot), but I've known that fire-breathing Koopa King much longer than the heroic gorilla in a red necktie. Anyways, Bowser and DK won't be available in single packs, just from Nintendo Starter Packs.

Bowser and Donkey Kong will not be available outside of Nintendo system starters for one big reason - they aren't available to play on non-Nintendo consoles. I can see it now - parents buying these for their kids playing on XBox or Playstation and them not working. It's simple this way and causes less consumer confusion. If you haven't figured it out by now, Activision could care less about purchasing convenience for the hardcore collectors.

It might be (have been) a good idea to make DK and Bowser in single packs exclusive to one store, say Gamestop and other boutique stores around the world. That way, ever purchase would theoretically go through an employee who has a clue about what works for what console. You'd think that be an exclusive that would do well at Gamestop.

Did you forget to calculate the money you'd get back by selling the extras?

I know I'd get a 3rd of my cost back from the Dark edition just by trading the game back to EB. Then off to ebay for the extra Dark Figures and the kaos trophies.

This is Australia though, so I don't know how well it would work anywhere else.

What do you mean? I'm saying that, unless the amiibo collector is going to pay 87.50 on eBay per character, it will be cheaper.

Also, these are starter pack characters. Unless there is some mad scalper with trillions of dollars, finding a starter pack shouldn't be a problem. (except for the dark editions, of course)
