Skylanders: Trap Team 3ds question

I want to get trap team on the 3ds, but I don't want to buy the whole pack with gusto and Barkley. I looked on ebay and saw the game and portal for around $20. My question is if I can use my 3ds portal from skylanders giants, or do I need the new one?

All 3DS portals work with all versions of 3DS games.

Well, I remember reading that the Giants and Spyro's Adventure portal works in TT, and in those versions, but the Swap Force one is the only one that can be used in Swap Force, and you must have it in order to scan Swap-Force characters, unless you want the game to ring up an error message.

Anyway, this is for Trap Team, not Superchargers. Next time you make a question about a game, put it in the right board.
