Hi everyone
I have loved Skylanders for years, and enjoyed all the characters and waiting outside stores for big releases like Sunburn....BUT I wanted to reach out to many older skylander fans who have been collecting since the start. My question is, Has anyone to an extent, stopped with skylanders? I always will love the concept of skylanders, and the characters, yet I kind of stopped after swap-force. I dont like how they feel the necessity to have a gimmick in every game. Spyro's adventure was new, fresh, and exciting. Giants came and it was awesome to be a giant. After giants, everything became a gimmick, more so with trap team. I never even bought trap team because it seemed like, "a trap". I didn't want to get bothered into getting sucked into buying those traps. I didn't like the appearance of the traps, and well, the truth is, capturing and playing as a villain would only last for that game (until the next game came out). I don't like to write about this, and I'm not bashing skylanders, they are great. It just kind of makes me sad that they don't just make new characters and follow the story line. Is there anyone who maybe doesn't like the gimmicks that come with each game? I actually like the idea as playing as the villains, but I would like if I had a toy for them, and not the trap. Additionally, with Superchargers, I feel the cars take away the vibe I love from the Skylanders running around on foot, teaming up to defeat enemies. I actually bought Blackout thinking I could buy trap team eventually and play with my brother. I just wanted to buy blackout because he looked cool, and then other than that, just play with the hundreds of skylanders we already have. My brother didn't even think buying trap team would be something he would do..My point is, does anyone else prefer Skylanders as a on foot game? I don't like all the weird changes that they feel they need to sell the game.

I actually like the way they have a new gimmick every iteration. I think it's pretty cool that the creative teams are able to come up with something new every single year, compared to so many other yearly franchises (or even ones that are less frequent) that stay exactly the same. Maybe it's because I just love seeing how creativity can take shape in the midst of corporate mandated constraints.
Granted, I did skip out on Trap Team because it just had too much stuff I was required to buy, but the gimmick itself was really cool.

It feels like they're making too much of an effort to be "the best game". They already have devoted fans, and are losing them due to this fact. I do wish they would make a spin off game that is a tad darker for their older fans, maybe developing a story. It just seems like they've lost their vibe to bring something magical to kids, but instead want money

I just kind of enjoyed a Co-op story, and buying characters. It just seems like too much with traps, and vehicles.

I have so much cores and gimmick landers from the previous games that the only thing interesting for me is buying traps and minis . At least for now .

From what I've seen so far they aren't going in the right direction with the game.
I could be absolutely wrong but I think this year's innovation overshadowed what this series is about. The drastically reduced number of brand new Skylanders, the apparent reduction of on-foot action, the excessive focus on vehicles... The game looks great but is far from what a core gameplay respectful and innovative entry should be.

your not wrong your right. they have gone overboard with all this gimmicks and they turned skylanders into a racer game. i was fine with swap zones in swap force. but in ss the whole game is about vehicles, i just lost totally interest in it. this is not skylanders for me, so i opt-out of this year. i just hope tfb will bring back a more ordinary game next year, if not im done for good.

I still have hope.
As I said, I like what I see but the more I know and the less I get the Skylanders' vibe. Not only because of vehicles but because of many, many unneeded choices and changes. Vehicles aren't the innovation I was hoping for but they wouldn't be bad if they weren't (apparently) stealing the characters's focus. Gimmicks should never come before a game's concept and in this specific case, before the stars of the game. I still think I'm getting a wrong idea of SuperChargers and they are simply pushing vehicles much more in advertisings and promotion rather than the actual game, but still... Even if the game actually turns out to be balanced I sincerely cannot ignore the other mistakes they made, in my personal opinion, of course.

I like seeing new characters added to the line up.
It just gets a little dull when the have to repose over and over again.

they try to establish certain characters as flagship or tent poles so they can cut down on development time. its lazy for sure as they shouldn't always rely on the reposes. acti is notorious from reusing assets and being lazy. look at how many call of duties they have had year after year. skylanders is getting the same repetitive nature year after year with what they do for it. All it makes people do year after year is buy less. I believe each year they lose fans due to the gimmicks and to me this is the last gimmick you could do. Vehicles is about as final in the train of thought where you could possibly take figures. It takes away the uniqueness of the character and shifts focus to the other thing. Why would I need a new powerset for a repose if over half the time is going to be devoted to using a vehicle for combat and transportation? Which most vehicles will play nearly identical if that's the case. The new shiny devalues your characters as a side attraction while the focus IS and will be on vehicles. That's it. For the times outside of that use of them it won't be repetitive with combat since the skylander will be unique, but a good chunk of the game will probably be boring. While the other gimmicks played off more a different character being special. If i get the dark edition starter for wii u for example, there's not much else to even buy. So far on what's been revealed I have very little interest in buying aside maybe 1 character or 2 and their matching vehicle. That's a far cry from giants where I got some reposes and the new characters and variants. Swap force I started not getting the regular characters but their variants. Trap team I only bought variant traps, 8 pack of traps and very few new characters and the variants. I went as far as to get only 1 each element wise for gates. With the lower number of characters balances that but again they need to repose carefully and limit characters to every other game. Spyro and a few others need downtime. The eon's elite make a lot of sense this year as thats what they should've done in the first place for some. I think like most people I have enough characters and since I have tons of other games, I can't devote a crazy amount of time to playing with hundreds of characters nor would I support buying that many. The whole "you need x skylander to enter this portal" has run its course for the series and if more games keep supporting it with expensive paywall still that's what makes me not want to get anymore games. I'm willing to give superchargers a chance IF it's cut down to just needing a certain vehicle and not an element. Due to the nature of the game I really feel it should've been reduced in price. 75 for starters when they put in a "reimagined" repose in the starter isn't justifying the price either. They should've just put spitfire with hot streak in the normal starters and made the game 60 for all games except wii and 3ds. Wii version should've been 40 along with the 3ds version.

Taking that last ride through the sunset on skylanders. Hopefully a return of more classic spyro gameplay in the horizon. |

Ya.. thats the thing. Game series that make a game every year, will plummit. Its better to make a game, then wait a while for the next one so people can be more hyped. I thought the 5TH skylanders game would be a huge game filled with throwbacks and features to the old games. 5 Is a big number, but this is just ANOTHER game..

Yes, I definitely prefer Skylanders as an on foot game. Skylanders characters have always been the core of the franchise, not the vehicles. If I wanted a vehicles game I would buy driveclub and that's it. As for the gimmicks I also agree is not cool to be forced to buy at least one of those in each game in order to complete it, I would be nice to just have new skylanders. Maybe you shoud change your approach to the game like I did, get the game and the few new skylanders you like the most with each installment and that's it.
