A few interesting things to take note of:
At the time it was just "Spyro the Dragon 2".
Sunny Beach looks way different, and the baby turtles have a gate against the tunnel, etc.
The voomed in view has a different pointer.
Most interesting, it was originally going to be released in Jan. 2000, not 1999.
And a few other things. Great stuff here.

I like the fact that they sort-of double jump at about 50 seconds in, getting a small amount of extra height to keep their momentum going. They knew about it that early on, but didn't fix it!

Interesting that Spyro's animations are basically the same as in Spyro 1 here, only with bigger wings. I noticed in the final game, his wings do the Spyro 1 animation in speedways - they must have forgotten to change it.

The way Spyro moves underwater in Sunny Beach looks like the Japanese version, where you couldn't charge continuously underwater. Also interesting that that one path in the beginning area used to be required. It certainly looked like something was supposed to be there, but wasn't in the final version. That must be why!

Overall, cool find! Thanks for sharing!

They probably didn't realize how big this exploit is and how much the game can be broken open until after release, which would be why it was taken out of YotD.

They probably didn't mess with it much and thought you could just get a tiny bit of height, not realizing exactly how much you can get.

The thing I never really wrapped my brain around until now was in order to be remembered, in order to leave something significant behind, you have to leave

I recall Alex Hastings and Ted Price mentioning in an interview that the team was quite stressed since Spyro 2 had a "shortened development cycle." Wonder when the decision was made to push up release?

It's funny seeing the zoomed in view knowing that Insomniac goes on to put crazy sniper rifles in all their future games. They got it from Spyro spitting rocks! ^.^;

These differences are huge. Would LOVE to be able to play this development build. If Sunny Beach changed so much, imagine what other levels may have been altered! You may have seen the water on top of the walls in Autumn Plains: http://slidespin.tv/wp-content...Water.png?w=615

Although if it was released in January 2000 then Year Of The Dragon would probably have been even more rushed

The Year of the Dragon probably wouldn't have been released at all.

It took me some time to figure that out when I was a kid, you just have to wait for them to go back into the hive. smilie I suppose not many of the enemies attack like this, so that's probably why.

Is it just me or do the gems, the gem inventory font and the baskets look near identical to the ones in Enter the Dragonfly? Which is quite interesting really seeing as EtD came way after and if they were aware of this version why would they take inspiration from this rather than the actual released version of GtG and YoTD?

But that was really cool to watch wow it's amazing the amount of differences there are between this and the finished version.

I like how they carried in the original sound effect from the first game in whenever you jumped and charged. Nice.
