I know a kid who made an 1100-something on the SAT (composite - not math & CR, but composite) and just barely graduated. He got into a 4-year university with a full ride on a baseball scholarship.
Good job, America.

![]() Yet someone gets a full scholarship because they are good at playing a stupid game. Makes a lot of sense... |

I can understand to a certain extent, because there are plenty of kids who aren't quite the academic type, but they're good at other things and this gives them great opportunities. But when you've got a kid who reads on an 8th grade level, yet he gets into the same college as the valedictorian of his class because he can shoot the hell out of a basketball, something's not quite right.
I guess the justice lies in the fact that athletic scholarships are much easier to lose than academic ones. |

Yeah, you know that kid who got accepted into all 8 Ivy's? He's going to the University of Alabama, because they offered him a free ride and the Ivy's were too expensive. <.<

I heard about that. That's ****ing ridiculous. University of Alabama isn't a bad school I think but the guy got accepted to ALL 8 Ivy League schools and he gets nothing? That's total bull****. But at least he got a free ride to Alabama... it's still pretty messed up though.

**** athletes who get full rides and all they do is keep a bare minimum 3.0 and party when they can.
I'm here hardly making above minimum wage to save money to hardly go to community college and earn my AAS in Network Administration. |

All of the flagship state universities are great schools, yes, but that's a shame. I thought the Ivy's had great financial aid? Their regents are loaded. |

Lol it sucks when your grades are effected by your athletic ability *coughgymcough*
My gym final included a 12 minutes run. They graded you by how many laps you could do in that 12 minutes, and had a set limit for everyone that they had to reach to get an 100%. I swear to god it was an Olympic amount sense even the most athletic kids in my class didn't reach it. So I got an F on that run. **** that.

That's awful.
It's the only thing I genuinely dislike about living in the South. If you don't play football, baseball, or basketball, nobody gives a damn about your future. |

A neighbour of mine got like a full scholarship to go to some University in Texas cause of her swimming I think. Like they're bringing in people not even from anywhere near America just cause of their Athletics. I can understand giving them scholarships for like sports courses, but for places known for their academia??
Tho I think there was another girl who did get a scholarship to some fancy American uni based on academics too...

This is probably the angriest thing I will post and have ever posted on my few knths on this site.
I THINK A MAN DEFENDING HIS COUNTRY SHOULD BE PAID MORE THAN A ****ING MAN DEFENDING A FOOTBALL. There. I did it.

In principle I agree, but in practice it's not possible. |

Only because of how it is now. If we had made sports "volunteer" work from the very beginning, then yes it would.

No, it wouldn't. Look at the sheer number of military personnel we have. If we paid them as much as professional athletes, it would kill the defense budget and then we'd have no military. Now, if you count medical and housing benefits, then in a way, they DO get paid as much. But if we're talking liquid money, it is not now and never will be possible. But that's neither here nor there. This is a different topic. |
