Hey there, I need some help.
My boyfriend wants to co-op with me with this animation series I have and he wants to make the soundtrack for it. Only thing is, we can't find any decent programs for PC. (We don't have Mac, so Garage Band isn't an option unfortunately..)
So I ask if any of you guys know of good music programs that are on the somewhat cheap side (hah, I know, silly rite? xP) because we are broke college students. I know about FL Studios, but is there something like it that is cheaper? Thanks for all the help.

If you're looking for a FREE cheap chiptune melody then this helpful: http://www.beepbox.co/
Otherwise in terms of cheapness and actual good sounding music try this: http://www.dubturbo.com/ I haven't heard of or listened to what the last one sounds like, but there you go..cheap(ish [under$40] ) EDIT: Apparently Dubturbo is a beat-making software and has bad reviews so probably don't buy it. However, think there is a good music composing app for iOS (can't remember what it was called), but that might not be an option either if you don't have an i-pad or are "broke college students"

Apparently if you go on steam and look up at the top, you can see the bar that has "Featured items," "Games," "Software," etc. if you hover over software, a dropdown will appear that includes "Audio Production." There seemed to have been stuff around $20, if that interests you. Wouldn't know about quality or anything about them.

If your boyfriend can read sheet music then MuseScore might be a good thing to try out. Completely free and has a large range of instruments available for use - some instruments sound awful until you add a ton of breathing and articulation patterns to make it more realistic, though.
Another one you might want to check out is ACID - a bit more similar to programs like FL Studios, but has a lot of features missing, too. Comes with an okay range of sound samples, but you'd probably have to search for more online for a better variety. Not entirely sure what the price range is for buying, but my sister tells me there's a free version available, too, so that could be good. c:
