Since the traps help 'boost' your vehicles, I'm curious if maybe the special traps do something extra? Maybe the steam punk shreadnaught traps makes your vehicle steam punk-y? Maybe the legendary traps turn it into legendary colours? Steamed Broccoli guy trap could make it have steam coming off of it?
