i know but you could ask them to move instead of arresting them. its rediculous to think that sitting can ow be a criminal crime.

Maybe it is rude, but worthy of arrest? I don't think so.

Have we really degraded to the point where people will take up an extra seat for no reason, AND THEN GET ARRESTED FOR IT???

What is this world coming to....

But putting your purse on the other seat is okay. :D Because they literally used this picture in most of these articles. But it's okay because men are pure evil.

I've said this a lot, but I really mean it this time: I give up on humanity.

Next thing you know, people will start getting arrested for not covering their mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing, because of the fear of germs.

Yeah, it might be an issue in the busier hours when people need the space, but it still seems a bit over the top to fine and arrest people for it.
Though let's be fair, they're being arrested for the warrant, not for spreading their legs. Still doesn't make it less ridiculous.

If I remember correctly there was a point in time when "manspreaders" were being actively targeted by SJW feminists, because in their minds men were trying to "impose their sexual dominance" over women by spreading their legs in public. I don't know if this has something to do with that, or if that still happens.

It's actually a cultural thing for men to sit in a way that uses up more space while women sit in a way that takes up less space. :L

... maybe.

It's not really a matter of space. Women generally sit with their legs closed because it's polite and proper. Sitting with our legs open is seen as crude and unlady-like for certain reasons. Women used to always wear dresses and skirts, so they kept their legs closed for obvious reasons, and I suppose that tradition kinda carried on to today.

I did this all of the time on the bus to and from college, if not outright lied down on seats. Or sometimes I would put one of my bags on the seat next to me (I carried two everyday).

I moved if someone wanted to sit on the unoccupied seat though.

Just noting that taking up more than one seat on the subway has always been against MTA rules and if you're spreading your legs to the extent where it's taking up half of another seat, especially when the train is full and someone asks you to move, it's impolite.

Arresting them is definitely overboard however. Taking up multiple seats in a crowded subway car, while rude, has and should never be a top priority on the list of possible crimes that can be done in the train.

Also wasn't the SJW who called "manspreading" a part of the patriarchy called out for being stupid?

EDIT: And:

Quote: MTA Rules of Conduct
Pursuant to section 1204(5-a) of the Public Authorities Law, any person committing one or more violations of these rules shall be subject to either:

(a) criminal prosecution in the criminal court of the City of New York, which court may impose a fine not to exceed twenty-five dollars or a term of imprisonment for not longer than ten days, or both; or

(b) civil penalties imposed by the transit adjudication bureau in an amount not to exceed one hundred dollars per violation (exclusive of interest or costs assessed thereon).

It's unjustified period but chances are the guy will walk off with a $25 fine.

I’d manspread like it’s going out of style and extend my legs as far as I could in subway if there was enough of room. Of course this is highly hypothetical situation since there is no subway system in where I live, but the positioning of the seats in subway trains actually offers leg room which is nice since I haven’t found a mode of public transportation where I could travel comfortably with enough of room for my legs.

But of course when there is a situation where subway’s room usage must be used to its most efficient potential it would be more fitting to ask manspreaders to stop it and give room for others. Of course then the thing would be different if they really manspreaded i.e. sit legs relaxed, extended and wide open and have their other hand stuck inside their trousers…. that is just awkward thing to do in public places and whatnot.

Eh, it's NYC public transport, I'm not surprised. What a miserable experience taking the subway is. =_="
