It's Otter awareness day. [CLOSED]

As in beware of Otters of any kind as a crucial species of the food chain and make sure they are doing fine in population. Here's some otter fun facts.

  • Otters are carnivorous. As in they are meat eaters.
  • There are 13 species of Otters.
  • Male otters are called "Boars", Female otters are called "Sows", and baby otters are called "Pups".
  • Most people think Otters are related to Beavers, which is not true. They are more related to Ferrets, Badgers, Minks, and Skunks.
  • Sea Otters hold hands with their mate/buddy so they do not drift apart when napping. They also use sea weed to anchor themselves.
  • Most species of Otters spend most of their time on land and have huge tails to help catch and find food. While the Sea Otter spends most of it's time at sea and have shorter tails.
  • Sea Otters don't have blubber. They specialized fur to keep them warm.
  • Sea Otter pups, can't sink or dive. Their fur prevents them from doing so. Making them adorable little flotation devices.
  • Sea Otters have a pouch across the chest of the skin, that's where they keep a rock that helps them break shellfish and clams.
  • Otters like to play with rocks. They juggle rocks, like a cat plays with a toy while on it's back.
