Once upon a time, a steroid-abusing douchebag who inherited a position as a Hollywood executive from a fat greedy old man.

One day, the new executive was lifting weights while getting fake tan sprayed on and remembered back to when he used to beat up geeks in high-school. Then, a broken light-bulb popped above the douchebag's head.

The executive-doucebag came up with an idea for a new show, which he pitched to fellow executives in a jacuzzi while smoking cigars.

"How about a show about nerds? They do nerd things and we all laugh at them. We'll have in a hot dumb blonde just in case to make us douchebags horny."

"That sounds like a great idea. Two & A Half-Men worked to appeal to our shallow notions of what we men want, so a show where nerds getting humiliated sounds like a great idea."

"Let's celebrate this new by going to a strip-club and drink sarsparillas!"

And so The Big Bang Theory was born and became a long-running sitcom that appeal to idiots and douchebags, which Planet Earth was in short supply of.

Obviously I don't know how it was really made but it never hurts to exaggerate every now and then.

HIMYM was a guy telling his kids about all the girls he ****ed and had a character who treated women like **** for the most part, but making a show about nerds and science which actually relates to a lot of people is bad. kden

While I don't agree that the show only appeals to idiots and douche bags, it is pretty much the worst sitcom to ever exist and is the epitome of everything wrong with modern television. Seriously, it's 2015 and you're still using a laugh track? Ugh.

Big Bang Theory is guilty of two great sins of comedy.

First, they explain the joke. Every time. Hint: If you have to explain the joke, it's not funny.
Second, the overall joke is the fact that the awkward character has to explain the joke, leading to more awkwardness. So, basically, they repeat the same joke, over and over again.

If you like BBT, more power to ya. Just don't be one of those people who just "can't believe" people don't like the show and don't be one of those people who try to use the fact that it's popular as a reason why people who don't like the show are wrong. We can get along just fine then. :D

Not that I care about BBT myself, but it's just an observation.

I remember when this song was called "The History Of Everything."

I can't make comments about what's good/bad on TV because I still follow Law & Order: SVU even though it's pretty bad as far as police procedurals go. XP

Big Bang Theory is a show that has succeeded only on stereotypes. There are nerds including awkward Indian and Jewish “fan service” idols and a hot girl moving next door. Content is boring and character development is obvious and insulting towards the intelligence of the audience. It is greatly successful sitcom but in terms of content it is just pure boredom.

To be fair, SVU used to be decent. Sure, it was never Grade-A story telling, but decent entertainment. About the time they ditched Elliot, things really went downhill. This last season has barely been tolerable (that #GamerGate episode... ugh). It's really getting down there with NICS-level entertainment at this point. My wife and I still watch it, but I think it's more because we just haven't removed the timer from the DVR. There's still 2-3 episodes from last season on there we haven't even watched yet.

I only really watch the new seasons for Barba and Carisi. I like Raul Esparza a lot and it's nice to have a pair of characters who call out everyone else on their ridiculous BS (although Carisi was really bad in the GamerGate episode).

Heh. That spoiler really was a spoiler for me.

But yeah, Barba and Carisi's banter had me laughing a couple of times.
