Don't be cynical. The bad guy was cynical, tried to shove his cynicism down everyone else's throat and loses to a bunch of wide-eyed-idealists who faced hardship and sacrifice.

This is from a game that is basically worship (along with Chrono Trigger) among the codifiers of the Internet and what it is today. In many ways, Final Fantasy VI's popularity outshines Final Fantasy VII compared to 15-20 years ago. Yet somehow the game's fans are very cynical, even back in 1997 when VII was a new thing.

Did VI told you to be cynical? No. You're missing the message of the very thing that defined your childhood and you as a person.

Yeah but this is more about some fans disregard the point of what the heroes were doing. The heroes are idealistic but the fans who root for them are ironically cynical.
