I know skylanders work if they remain in their boxes. As I had no interest in hanging on to many of the trap masters (I don't like slow characters) I was wondering how Rare Nitro Head Rush and Legendary Bushwhack are. Should I unbox them (for convenience ) or keep them in their boxes. I got them at about $15 each.

Neither are rare. I'd open them, but it's obviously up to you.

There are still plenty of Nitro Head Rush at my Target. I haven't seen Legendary Bushwack since the first shipment, but my TRU hadn't been stocking very well. Neither seem to be popular characters, so their variant counterparts aren't either.

Always a personal preference when debating to open something, me personally if I have a feeling of keeping something in the package I pick up two or three of them

It depends on the country you live in. Around here, both are rare just as Chase Figures...
