Nintendo confirms mobile development and new console [CLOSED]

Well, this is interesting. Also, the membership service to replace Club Nintendo will be a new one from Nintendo and DENA, the company Nintendo has paired up with for mobile.

This is very interesting. I think the 'X' may represent cross which could indicate for cross platform play between the NX and the 3DS (or new handheld).
Unfortunately we won't be getting anymore info on this 'DX' until 2016 (presumably E3 2016).

Just as an FYI, Nintendo didn't say NX was necessarily a new "console", merely a new "system".

Steam is a system, for example, but it isn't a console.

The fact that Nintendo discuss NX as working with 3DS, Wii U, and all of those other things makes me think it may not be a new games console. In fact, it could easily be that QOL platform they talked about before.

This. Nintendo probably wouldn't pair NX with the Wii U and 3DS if it was a new console. Though it probably won't happen, i think it would be really cool if this was some sort of PC or mobile device that Nintendo is working on themselves.

If it IS a new console and they announce it in 2016, then I'll be done supporting Nintendo. Releasing a new console now, especially now that Wii U sales are picking up, would just be shooting Wii U owners in the foot. The best they can do is wait out the Wii U's lifespan, otherwise they risk losing a lot of faithful fans, and therefore sales.

I think these are the most likely devices that it could be:
1. A new home console that will coincide with the Wii U for a few years until the Wii U is discontinued (Much like the PS3 is to the PS4).
2. A VR headset - with sony and valve both hopping onto the VR bandwagon I wouldn't be surprised if nintendo was next to join the party.
3. A tablet - A gaming focused tablet that will have access to google play which will sell at a low price (Maybe even £99.99 - that will attract a lot of people to the tablet in the already overcrowded tablet market).
4. A hybrid gaming platform that will play Wii U games, 3ds games and Nintendo Mobile games.

Yeah im kinda torn about this as a wii u owner. I hope at least nintendo releases their 'New console" sometime in 2018 then atleast the wii u will would have a 5 year life span. But if this is coming out this year or next year i will be pissed and Nintendo might go down like sega.

Nintendo won't suffer the same fate as Sega, at least not for a LONG LONG time. They have enough money to pay their bills and whatnot until 2050.
