Maybe we should have a shout box on the side of the page or maybe a chat room on here?

Well allow me to educate you my un-educated friend.

A shout box is a box at the side of a website on every page where people can post small messages that everybody can see, whichever page they are on.

Rather like the "Bulletins" on YouTube.

Yaaoorhh... After all, a forum is for discussion, and topics are for specific discussions. In a chat room, you can talk about anything, cuss, or even spam. It's horrible.

I agree; the maturity level would make it a horrible idea. Plus you'd have to moderate that as well.

Chat boxes update every millisecond.....
And plus, chat boxes wont do my PC any good..........they always freeze it.
And people could find loads of IP's using it.

Rarely is a shoutbox a place for maturity. It's a place where pretty much everyone goes to screw off. I mean, messages on shoutboxes aren't permanent, unlike a post - one reason why people do this. In general, shoutboxes are for more casual "hello" conversations, so formality (often accompanied with maturity) usually does not exist.

That's besides the point; the "life-span" of a message on the shoutbox is much shorter compared to a post. Moderation of the shoutbox can be done, but it's rather inconvenient.
