Tbh I think I've been more invested in Amiibo than Zap here. I regular the subreddit and keep an eye on news all the time. I just don't have interest in collecting them all and keeping them in boxes.

I knew Skylanders scalpers were a thing in the first game but I wasn't aware they still existed. Stock for those two games seem to be varied and plenty so I assumed it wasn't an issue anymore.

Does the dumbass even realize that you can't actually play as amiibos?

I haven't paid attention with the latest game, but it may not be as bad as Amiibo in the sense of a single character disappearing entirely because of them thanks to wave assortment pumping in figures regularly. However, some of the not so plentiful figures such as store exclusives, chase figures, or slightly more uncommon pieces like the Kaos Trap are hard to find in stores as a result. Toys R Us & Walmart always overstock their exclusives, but Target ones tend to disappear on Day 1 of release.

Even then, upon a wave's initial release, said new figures will be a bit more uncommon. Of course this is natural anyway, but it can take a bit longer than expected for them to start becoming common again thanks to scalpers. A prime example of this is Ninjini from Giants. It took months after her release for people to be able to find her and a few more afterwards before she became a self-warmer.

I'm fairly certain by now he's an adult with his own job. I'm not sure he can live on his own with the money he's throwing on amiibo (unless he has a really high paying job) but I doubt his parents give a **** what he's doing.

Different series are different series, so it doesn't necessarily guarantee how things will play out; but following with Skylanders I do believe Lucario to be fairly easy to obtain, maybe starting to disappear after a month. Rosalina on the other hand... I expect people to be lucky to find her if they didn't pre-order.

Adding on to this, GameStop can vary. Golden Dragonfire Canon lasted for a good year after its release, while Scarlet Ninjini & Polar Whirlwind only stuck around for a bout a week. Gearshift was meant to be a pre-order bonus for Swap Force with a later release, but was overstocked and could readily be found up until her normal release a few months later. If rumors are to be believed, I expect Shulk to be more like Polar & Scarlet. Lasting a short time, but will disappear fast.

I don't recall Best Buy having any exclusives, so I can't judge what Meta Knight will do.

A while back a Gamestop manager (who has remained anonymous) claimed that Gamestop was planning to do to Shulk exactly what they did to Xenoblade: Only ship enough to fulfill pre-orders, then get another shipment and claim it as used to sell for a higher price (and more profits). Shulk is pretty much guaranteed rare not simply because he's not a popular character, but because that's what Gamestop wants to happen. It's self-sabotage.
Of course this isn't confirmed to be true. But seeing how this manager also apparently correctly guessed the release date for Smash Wii U before anyone knew, it isn't completely baseless.

As for Best Buy, I didn't even know Meta Knight was available for pre-order until after they announced they weren't taking anymore. And seeing how they've handled amiibo so far, it's looking fairly bleak.

Yeah, I probably made a mistake in paying 30 to preorder Lucina from EBGames in Austrailia today...

I just don't want to lose my chance. Yesterday I saw a lot of stock for Toon Link and Bowser at TRU, but had no money. I went back today with a twenty, every last one was gone.

You could follow the subreddit. They're pretty damn good at keeping people up to speed when pre-orders come up (e.g. Sonic was available on Amazon yesterday).

Oh they are still around. If there's figures to get their paws on. They'll sell it for a jacked up price. Heck some are on this website in the Skylanders sections.

To avoid scalpers and jackasses, I'm trying to find imports for most all of Wave 4 while listening to Mega Man 2 Medley. I guess you could say...

I'm plunging in like I will with wave 3. Importing is a last resort since it tends to cost at least double the price because of shipping.

If someone knows a cheap import site though I would appreciate it. I get the feeling I won't be walking home with Meta Knight any time soon.

I'm combing the /r/amiibo to find stuff about him, so far no such luck. I'll keep you updated though.
