I don't know what that means, but I find it strange that a cartoon about friendship and tolerance elevates some of the main characters above the others.

To be fair, I think Wind is either keeping my joke going or is taking my word for it. The show displays multiple times that without her friends she has a hard time getting through scenarios. Just like her friends will need her to get through their problems. Sometimes the tiara wearing one doesn't appear in an episode because is about the other friends helping each other without the tiara wearing one.

I don't know what that means, but I find it strange that a cartoon about friendship and tolerance elevates some of the main characters above the others.

Alicorn definition: Has the wings of a Pegasus and the horn of a unicorn. In MLP FiM they can be seen as "gods" in the fact they have amazing magic powers. (compared to regular unicorns who can only perform and learn so many spells, usually one based off their cutie mark) While it isn't really known if it is coincidence or not, Alicorns usually become a "princess" blah blah because they are immortal and what not. No guy pony has became an Alicorn as of yet because it may or may not be gender specific. I say Coincidence

And since I mentioned cutie mark I will go ahead and explain what that is just so you know what I meant.
Cutie Mark: A tattoo like mark that appears on your flank (aka butt) when you discover your hidden talent that will stick with you for the rest of your life. Most find there's during there foalhood (childhood) while some may stay as a "blank flank" for a while. And you only get 1. Think of them as a tattoo of your true self written there for all to see
Example of cutie mark

Notice the rainbow thunderbolt coming out a cloud tattoo like thing? That is her cutie mark (in her case it means her true self is too be fast, like a lightning bolt)

I didn't ask what it means, but okay, I'll roll with it. This is the first legit discussion I've ever had about this show, by the way.

So there is a group of six ponies that this show revolves around, and one of them is an all-powerful, immortal goddess called Twilight Sparkle, who is somehow completely dependent on her mundane, normal friends when it comes to solving problems (and vice versa). That's kinda like ignoring the elephant in the room, isn't it?

And then there are these colorful "branding marks" (which is probably what they're referring to), that are supposed to tell you what your single given special talent is, that appear immediately after you first realize it yourself. It might just be me, but isn't that kinda depressing?
I mean, I've seen pictures of ponies with marks depicting candy canes and screws and stuff. So while other ponies are off somewhere, becoming immortal goddesses, how would it feel like to realize that your true self, basically the reason for your entire existence is ******* candy?! Do these ponies even have free will, or are they just drones fulfilling whatever task they happened to receive in their magical genetic lottery?

And how do you even just simply become an alicorn? Is is something that happens when ponies aspire to their true selves and their special talent, and realize their potential, or is it just some lame "chosen one"-kinda destiny crap with no explanation?

Also, let me guess. This show has got a ton of plot holes, right?

Lets see where to start, while it may seem "depressing" to you. A cutie mark is special in the way they are for the most part unique. Anyways about Twilight being an "all power, immortal goddess" do note she only just recently obtained her Alicorn hidden powers at the end of season 3 (so far the show is at the end of season 4). Also one does not simply become an Alicorn, they are pretty special in that way. (Otherwise chaos would likely happen). Although Unicorn's with extreme magic potential usually turn into them. (But there are only 4 Alicorns. Two of which have been Alicorns for over a thousand years, and have the royal duties of manipulating the sun/moon.) Anyways even though Twilight Sparkle is a princess and all, she isn't really stuck with a bunch of royal duties and her friends speak to her as they always have. Regardless the fact she is a princess now and thus extremely important in every other pony's eyes. Think of it like your friends not turning into "mindless zombies" now that your royalty which marks true friendship as they still see you for you, not your title.
Also there isnt that many plot holes.

Edit: Also Cutie Marks are your true talent. A reflection of your true self

One of the most basic tenants of Cell Theory is that the cell is the most basic unit of life. Nucleic acids are an important component, but they are not truly "life," as you are describing it. *brick'd*

Unique? What does that change if they're nevertheless insignificant? Actually, it's worse, because if no two cutie marks are ever the same, then theoretically there should be a limit to how many ponies can excel at any given thing (or rather, possess a cutie mark that portrays any given skill).
And saying it's a true talent, or a reflection of your true self change's nothing. First off, saying that something is a true anything literally means nothing, and second, that doesn't make the issue go away.

And do note that I have never watched this show. I don't know which season is the latest one, or what happened in the end of whichever season. I'm judging this show based on what you're telling me.

Ok, so Twilight Sparkle is somehow inherently special for her to become an alicorn. Is that ever explained in the show?
And she has no duties? What kinda princess is she then?
I'm probably looking too deep into this since we're talking about a cartoon originally aimed for little girls, but since we're talking about it..

(Yeah I was just mentioning she isnt "that important" of a princess as you only know what I have said, thus why I said it)
Her only real duty is to continue to study friendship and the importance of it, blah blah that stuff. The way she became an Alicorn was to make sense of a spell that a great unicorn pony (Starswirl the Bearded but that isnt important) left behind as a test requested by Celestia (more on her later). She said the spell incorrect and her friends had there cutie marks swapped around. Her friends had no clue and thought they always had there new cutie mark since forever. (but still fail miserably at what is now there "true self") She realized to make the spell work, she had to use her friends to reverse the spell she failed at and restore everyone's cutie marks. She then figured out the problem, Starswirl the Bearded didn't take in friendship as a factor (But she does this time so it finishes what Starswirl couldnt) and then the spell works. Twilight awakens in an ethereal place where she is greeted by Princess Celestia, who congratulates her and declares Twilight is ready for a new stage in her life. Twilight undergoes a transformation and returns to Ponyville (Name of her hometown) as an Alicorn.
Then after her friends congratulate on her new form, Celestia announces that Twilight is no longer her student, but a princess who has demonstrated leadership and other positive attributes from her friends during her stay in Ponyville.

And thats how she became an Alicorn.

Ok. That doesn't really explain much about why she suddenly became an immortal princess, but I suppose something like that would be a little too deep for the show's original intended audience.
