So I've played through the whole game on nightmare mode now. I've got 66% completion, but I kinda want to go back to playing my save file set to Hard and complete that one instead.
I kind of feel that nightmare mode isn't that fun. I find my self just mostly running around battles shooting projectiles praying I don't get hit more then 3 times so my skylander doesn't faint.
Skylanders that have more of a close combat Style seem to be at a real disadvantage for the mode.
I could over use the villains to make it a bit easier but I find using the villains to much is kind of a weak victory as they can't die and have relatively OP attacks. Also there's already so many skylanders I want to train to fight without relying on villains to carry them.
Anyone else feel this ?
Also does anyone know if you unlock anything special by completing the game on nightmare?
The hat awards I can transfer over , but should I keep going with nightmare to unlock anything else?

TBH I really like the challenge of Nightmare mode and it seems to be getting harder with every game! But on the projectile point I completely agree with you on that and i find it that melee fighters are put a Giant disadvantage (see what I did there?)! But the fact that most characters can learn a ranged attack balances this out. But if there are so many Skylanders that you want to train up without villains, definitely go back to hard because there is relatively not much of an exp different between difficulties.

Don't over use the villains then.
Think of the game as 'Tag Team', not Trap Team. Once you have a strong villain staple, don't hesitate to swap back and fourth, the better players, you will notice have no aversion to tagging constantly, a lot of villains actually are of more benefit this way, as either a buff, or a setup attack, they (not all) were designed so that they would function as an assist just as much if not more so than 'an unkillable character'. As for feeling squishy, are you using properly leveled characters? Are you charging in head first? You can still use melee, but good melee is predicated on movement, jumping when a ground pound is coming, running behind slower villains like Blastertron, etc. If there is a group of guys, you string them out, or hit them with a damaging AoE attack to whipe out the week guys (where villains come into play for instance). You can use, say Slam Bam w/ Grave Clobber, slide into a group, switch to GC as soon as you get within strike distance, do his 'bone' move, swing a couple times on any weaker ones still alive, then instnatly switch during the punch animation, and follow up with a Slam combo or ice freeze. Use tanky villains as tanks, use projectile villains for range when necessary, and use support villains to support you. Pick a villain that goes well with who you are playing as, not just because you like them. Another example, say you are using Jawbreaker, pair him with Chef Pepperjack. Toss out peppers, then switch and run in, cause chaos, then rinse/repeat. Like Krypt King? Use Broccoli guy (self heal) or Golden Queen (her shooter thing) to help cover any use of the ghost sword. Wildfire? Hoodsickle, pull'em in, dash at them as Hood, then swipe. - Unreall |

^dis guy knows what he's talking about. I'm roughly halfway through story-mode on nightmare, and while I think the boss battles can be a little unfair, battling general enemies is still a fun challenge. Unreall is completely right in that you have to find good pairings and make the most of them. One of my favorites is Roller Brawl and Scrap Shooter. Since Scrap Shooter is all about positioning, and Roller Brawl can move so quickly, I just user her to 'kite' enemies around, then switch to SS and mow down the approaching enemies. You'd better have a life trap with Brocolli Guy in it though, you'll need him between battles.

If someone ever made Skylanders into a MOBA, I'd be ok with that. |

Yeah, like if your playing as Stealth Elf, a melee character, having a villain like Bomb Shell, a ranged character, can really help out.

Coming up with villains/ skylander pairs and Beating nightmare mode isn't really the problem. The games not that hard. I was just wondering if anyone else feels that switching constantly to a villain to get in easy heavy damage and take some hits, isn't really the funniest way to play? maybe some of the importance of the actual skylanders has kind of been lost. And I might have preferred if villains were more like magic items and were only be able to be used once a battle/level.

Personally wish Nightmare offered something new besides just a few items. The idea of winning on timed mode and not swapping for the 4th star just do not appeal to me. The PS3 version does not even let you switch to your villain half the time without it counting against so you so I just do not have plans for that 4th star on Nightmare as a rule.
Nightmare is needed for those 3 last hats and get you the platinum trophy but no, does not offer anything else new, but then again, have not finished it yet. This is my 2nd attempt at it, the first time my game crashed and deleted in chapter 9 or 11. |

Yeah I feel the same . I like the idea of time trials, but I think they should be physical races through the level to the finish line or something , not just completing the story mode of that level really fast. It's a challenge, not because it's difficult , but because you really don't want to play the level again. Thanks , yeah I don't think anyone's got nightmare completed 100% yet , but I thought I'd ask in case it is worth completing for some prize .

I do actually really enjoy nightmare mode. It's extremely difficult but that's what I like about it, just look at this screen shot of nightmare mode:

^ I agree with TTD, but I understand what your saying wild_defender, but I like it that way, extremely hard. Like in Kaos doom challenge, today I was using a Team of level 4 High Five + Kaos, and 6 Pain-Yattas all swarmed me and killed Kaos ( well, depleted his time, ), and High Five, and destroyed all my towers. Just goes to show that you need high level characters...

I admit that Nightmare mode is mega hard, but getting the Rainbow Hat and completing it 100% is very rewarding. This proves that the evolved Kaos isn't completely hardcore.

Actually, it's after you defeat Kaos in order to get the Rainbow Hat. It doesn't have to be 100% complete. |

I really don't care about Nightmare mode. I used evolved Kaos through the whole thing. All I did was use the magic attack to recharge my timer and spam doomsharks.

I only played Nightmare mode on Giants, but only because my son somehow got it set to Nightmare mode and there was no way to turn it off (I went through all the settings that you were supposed to do to change it). We finally ended up beating it, but it was very difficult. I think we finally made it to Kaos when we ran out of Skylanders. My son had to go to bed, but then I remembered I had a lightcore Shroomboom that I had bought for his birthday. I put it on the portal (still in the package) and the lightcore blast was enough to defeat Kaos and beat the game . My son missed it and later asked why Shroomboom was in his list of Skylanders

Truhfully i found nightmare pretty easy after doing it on swap force 7 times between 360/xbox one and well kaos il admit helped alot. Beat nightmare in a day on the 360, 2 days on the xbox one it needs to be harder than that now....
