Long time, no see you guys! Well, recently I was sent a copy of the 1998 Spyro the Dragon press kit and I was now given the permission to upload it for others to see, and there were things such as clip art for the game, and text files, which the 5 different text files I will be sharing today. Such information as there originally going to be 120 dragons to rescue, the 2 removed homeworks, removed abilities, etc.

Nifty. It's like the Insomniac Museums of their future games, before those future games were even a concept. XP

Whoa, skimming the game features listed in the document in comparison to the final version, there's some nice info on the proposed features for the original Spyro 1. One of three things would happen to those features: 1) either was unfeasible to reach due to time or technical issues, 2) altered from the original intention, or 3) was used in the other two Spyro games in the original trilogy. I'm curious to see if much of the proposed content was created then scrapped, or just a wishlist to add extra stuff to the core of the game they're developing,

Reading the 5 content documents in detail now, specifically on the "Overview and Features" document, were the files are sent to the press in one package or separately? You mentioned there is clip art from one of the five documents you linked. Was I supposed to look the images in your DeviantArt gallery?

Anyway, I wonder if there's also a press kit for Spyro 2 and 3; it would be interesting to compare the info in comparision to their final version game copies.

Hey, ISO! They were all packaged together, and the clip art is in another file from the kit, though the clip art is all stuff we have seen before, so there isn't anything new. smilie
There are also screenshots in the kit, though they are pretty much ones we have seen before too, though the picture names are listed as "Pete01" and "Pete02", as some people know, Pete the Dragon was a very early name for Spyro.
And sadly, there is no press kit for 2 and 3, such a shame, really.

Huh, all five document pieces released together in a press kit. What I find it really odd is that this document, released in 1998 September, around the time of the game's release in the same month, has info on the proposed content that differs greatly from the final product in terms of the additional content added to the core of the game being missing.

They listed that out instead of focusing on the final version content; I'm not sure if this is a wishlist of additional stuff or cut content. I'm flooded with a set of mixed feelings by this. On one side, I'm happy and intrigued to see more proposed content of Spyro 1; and on another side, I'm a bit irritated this content got cut out instead of fleshed out (big ones like Machinist Dragons and Aquifier Dragons); and on yet another side, I have to realize that this game was developed in a year. I don't really know what to feel at this current point by these thoughts.

Anyhow, I think this topic should be moved into the "General" subsection from the "Spyro and Skylanders" section. I don't think it is getting enough people to see and reply to this topic because I felt the "Spyro Games" section is more of a help and opinions section in a certain game due to the current nature of topic creations; that's why I created the Games Done Quick Winter 2015 event: Spyro the Dragon speedrun topic there. I felt that I made that mistake when I created a Spyro: Attack of the Rynocs beta elements topic in the particular game subsection back then.

Not 2 and 3 at all? You got the first one from your annoymous source, but there isn't a 2 or 3 at all? If so, that sucks. It would interesting to find other press kits before Skylanders came along.
