Okay I have Skylanders Giants bought for Wii, also bought for the PS3. We then have Swap Force bought for the Xbox one. Each came with a portal. Making 3 total. I just got a Wii U and I found out it can play Wii games. Will the Wii U see the Wii portal of power and play the Skylanders Giant game? I ask because I plugged it in the USB and it is NOT lighting up so I am assuming no? Also I now have 3 portal of powers one for PS3, one for Wii, one for Xbox one this space being taken up is awful. Will the old versions of the portal of power work for even like the new trap team stuff? Are portals of power platform specific or interchangeable? I am asking because I can find low cost just games (media only) but I want to make sure the portals I have are good enough for the newer stuff. Anyone have any thoughts and experience on this?

When you say plugged it in, do you mean also running the game as the portal may be "smart" enough to not initiate until the game begins.

I have not put in the media yet. It is at another house. However the portal does not light up like it does when the Wii is on or the Xbox one or the PS3 does. Alas the bad part is the link says it is backward compatible but not forward compatible so Trap Team on any of these would need a new portal. Ugh thanks but not what I need to hear. Xbox one swap force is the highest I have and its only for the Xbox one according to the cart so then I have to still get a trap team portal.

Yeah, portals have only ever been forward compatible from SSA to Giants (hence the Portal owners starter pack with no portal).

SF introduced the need to be able to read figs with two chips and TT introduced the need to also read a trap.

1. I don't know about the Giants portal, but I am able to use my Wii Swap Force portal for playing Wii Skylanders games on my Wii U. However, I did notice that my Trap Team portal, when plugged in, doesn't turn on until I start the game. Since the same company produced Giants and Trap Team, it's possible the Giants portal does the same thing.

2. Trap Team requires a new portal, so the old portals will not work with the game.

3. PS3/PS4/Wii/Wii U portals are all interchangeable with their respective systems. However, due to security protocols required by Microsoft, the Xbox 360 portals will only work on the 360, and the Xbox One portals only work on the One.
