Where to Start with Skylanders? [CLOSED]

Hello All,

I am quite new to video games, I bought my first console (a Wii U) about a week ago. I am really interested by Skylanders but I don't know a great deal about it. I've tried not to read too much as I don't want to spoil anything.

My question is where is the best place to start? Ideally I'd like to start at the beginning with the first game which I believe is "Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure"? I don't mind that it's an older game or the fact that it's for the Wii. Is it worth starting from the first game and working through the series though?

Finally I see so many figures bundled with the games as starter packs and booster packs and add-on packs. I haven't got a clue about them if you have time could you explain what I would need to get me started on my Skylanders adventure?

Thank you very much for your time, I look forward to seeing you around the forum.

Best Wishes,

Edie x

yes its worth starting with the first...

spyro adventure:
you need one of each elements(there is 8 total) to be able to visit all areas..

giants:
you need one giant then you can reuse the 8 elements from ssa to be able to visit all areas.

swap force:
you need one of each swapper elements (8 total). one giant to be able to visit all areas

trap team:
you need one trap master of each element(8 total), one traps of each element(8 total), one giant and the ligth and dark element to access all areas and trap all villains....

that is pretty much it..

You should start from Spyro the Dragon, oh and buy a Sony PlayStation 2 while you're at it. Jak & Daxter, and Ratchet & Clank should be the platformer/action series to start off with. smilie

Sorry, but SSA isn't on the Wii U in the United states. (but in japan tho..)

It's a great game, and here's what you need to get everything.

Starter pack- Spyro, Gill grunt, trigger happy.
4 adventure packs, Darklight crypt, pirate seas, dragon's peak, empire of ice (note- these only unlock levels in SSA and SG.)
a life and air skylander (the 4 adventure packs come with the other elements, plus the starters)

Giants has a portal owners pack, so all you need to do if you get ssa is pick that up and you're set. it comes with the one giant you'll need.

Swap force needs a new portal, so you'll wind up getting blast zone, wash buckler, and a stealth elf. this stealth elf weorks in all games, so you can just buy her and skip out on a green/orange base non gimmick life character. then you'll want a swapper of each movement type (you already will have rocket and climb). so you'll need dig, spin, bounce, teleport, speed, and sneak.

Trap team requires one trap crystal of each element to be all villains, plus that darned kaos trap. you get snap shot, a water trap master, a new core character, food fight, and 2 traps from life and water in your starter. so you need 9 more traps and 8 more trap masters, since there are 2 new elements. (Light and Dark)

Yes, I agree with the others- definitely buy the Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure (also called SSA) first! Also like they said, you'll need a good handful of Skylanders to unlock every area, if you want to.

Since the others have got the technical aspect covered, I'll tell you this. The first game is essential to understanding the whole Skylanders ordeal! Therefore, it's a good idea to start there and decide if you like the story, characters, gameplay, etc. Though there are slight tweaks to the stories, some characters and controls- Swap Force on- in later games, SSA is the basis. If you don't like it, then none of the later games will be appealing either.

In my opinion, you can pick and choose games after SSA. I mean, technically the order is SSA > Giants > Swap Force > Trap Team, and all have callbacks to older games, but like I said, each is pretty much the same concept + a gimmick. Tell us what you think after trying the first game and I'm sure we'll give you advice on the next Skylanders you'll be interested in, if you're only interested in getting the stuff you want. :3

I think buying the newer game is better as SSA and TT are pretty different and it's easier to get current toys.

Get Skylanders Trap Team,

Unless you plan on shelling ou LOTS OF CASH,
I recommend not starting from SSA

You will get the most fun as a new Portal Master starting out with the newest game!

Though I agree that those are great games, this can be considered off topic.

Not to mention the fact that you don't need to shove Spyro down someone's throat just because they want to get into Skylanders.

What? It was only a suggestion, and Spyro was the game that started it off. I don't think I'm literally shoving it down anyone's throat, lol. The user might not even know about the old Spyro games, if he's/she's new to video gaming. I wasn't trying to be rude or anything, I think you may have taken it as a personal attack.
