I'm not getting the game till Christmas but I got some stuff from wave 1 and 2 to get ready for it. I have one trap of each element and I was wondering how traps exactly work, are the different models specific to a specific villain or can you choose which villain you want the trap to have and switch them out whenever?

You can catch all the villians with just one of each elemental trap. More traps gives you more access to them at the same time, but is not necessary

If you want to play as Kaos, you will need a Kaos trap. If you get the Dark Edition of Trap Team, it comes with the Ultimate Kaos trap, otherwise you'll have to buy the single pack Kaos trap.

The Ultimate Kaos trap and regular Kaos trap function the same, they're just cosmetically different. While the game recognizes them as two different traps, but you really only need either one of them if you want to play as Kaos.

Eventually there will also be traps for two additional elements, but information on their release hasn't been revealed yet.

The trap sculpts don't matter, they just look cool.

Is there a villain limit on a single trap?. We have so many traps of each element and haven't ran in to this problem, but I'm curious...

No, the trap only holds one villain at a time, but it stores the evolved flog for all villains of that type. There is no limit.
