Holy crap.
I have been playing video games for more than 25 years. I can not recall ever being quite so frustrated or blown away by the utterly ridiculously difficult level of difficulty of the final boss battle versus Kaos in Trap Team.
I played the game from the start on "hard" mode, so I am hoping for the sake of children everywhere that the Kaos battle is MUCH less ridiculous on the easier settings.
Is there some strategy that I am missing here? Or is the "hard" mode Kaos battle making other gamers pull their hair out, too? I must have burned through 3 or 4 dozen Skylanders before finally finishing off Kaos, and it took probably 45 minutes. When I was finished, it wasn't even satisfying and I didn't feel like I really "won" anything.
Ugh. Thanks for giving me a healthy place to vent this frustration. I wouldn't want to punch any puppies or kittens, which is kind of what I felt like doing during that Kaos battle.

Don't know, yet.
I've finished the game on Medium, and It was difficult, but in a fair way, not frustrating. Will let you know when I'll beat him again.

One strategy is to constantly switch between a villain (preferably one that can dish out loads of damage, like Hood Sickle or Grave Clobber), and your regular Skylander.
During the final fight with Kaos, I used Krypt King and Grave Clobber (mainly because they can dish out incredible amounts of damage in short time). I was forced to switch to another Skylander after Krypt King succumbed to his damage. Another strategy is... to use Kaos against Kaos. Once you trap Kaos, he's easily the best villain in the game; His attacks can dish out tons of damage, and one of his element attacks (Magic, to be exact) completely refills his Villain Timer.

I used Threatpack as my villain of choice, when you charge up the rockets, they do great damage and home in.

I was curious if simply using a Swap Force character of the two elements that Kaos has switched to for the "Elemental Bullets" would make that fight better...It is on the insane side at the moment. It's also kind of lazy on the programming side. He just arbitrarily gains health between phases...lol come on.

I switched between the villain and skylander a lot, I used snap shot and the chompy Mage and half way through I switched to chef pepper jack.

I only played on Easy and never switched Skylander. The design and attacks of the final boss are quite cool, but the fight is long and kind of boring.

Hmmm.... actually I didn't find it too bad, frankly after the Kaos battle of the first Skylanders I'd welcome ANYTHING different, and I admit the Trap Team battle comes second after the Swap Force one (No, I didn't like the Giants one).

Now that could be worth investigating, though I noticed the bullets are automatically tied to whatever element your Skylander/Villain combo is, including Kaos in which the bullets rapidly flit between the 8 symbols, and display as his 'crest' when being selected. Thanks for the suggestion, I shall give this a shot! The health gaining did feel, kind of arbitrary too.

Went with Wallop and Bone Chompy. Wallop can do a great deal of damage by himself with his lingering attacks from the tantrum, and bone chompy's tiny size let you avoid the lasers more easily. The sharks help with healing too since they retain that bit from SSA, so steer close to the waves if you need to.
Items can always help as well if you've got them, though the location items are pretty useless this time... |

The healing thing from doom sharks is a reference to hell the bullet games, In this games if your hit box get close to the bullets they give you more points. It's called graze in touhou world. I'm my first try I switched a lot too but the battle was mainly Golden Queen/Rattle Shake combo. It's me or aiming Kaos is harder in this game? |

I lost half my skylanders and I was on easy mode lol. Trap Team is the first game in the series that I ever had to be careful with on easy mode (Because I had so many new ones from day 1 none got to level 10 before the final fight.) But I replayed it again and I didn't lose anyone because I slayed Kaos with Chopper's soul gem. I was in a huge rush the first time I fought him though, and I didn't realize I was standing under him when he charged up the energy waves.

You girls had to play it on easy mode???....Try it on hard, that's a hair puller...can't wait for Nightmare. Overall I don't mind, and actually appreciate, hard fights but this fight is kind of stupid. At least they give you a reason to have a vast collection lol. I think I went through about 20-25 Skylanders on Hard.

Once I complete the game on nightmare mode, I will try to only do the fight with 1 skylander from start to finish like I did in SSF

I will try to defeated him on Hard using only my Final Boss slayer: my maxed out, fully upgraded S1 Trigger Happy.
He defeated Kaos both in SA and Giants all alone, without having to change Skylander. Super Evil Kaos was a quite easy boss, considering his moves. But that Traptanium Powered Devil will be a true challenge, for him.

I didn't have to play it on easy mode. I chose to. It's a lot better than throwing the controller through the T.V after all of the skylanders die. Like I said it was easy the second time around because I didn't realize I was being destroyed by the charging attack the first time (Before he sends out the pulses.) Overall a very repetitive final boss but miles better than that boring one from Swap Force. Does anyone else think that the trap team Kaos fight was a lot like a final boss right outta the Kirby series? Just the way he looked gave off a Kirby vibe.

He really isn't "that" hard, to be perfectly honest.
He is a bullet-hell shooter boss in a platformer, so naturally, you will be caught off guard at first. However, like ALL bullet-hell shmups, there is always a pattern, or opening to avoid the attacks, all it takes is some practice and a bit of refining your reflex at that game. Out of the 3 phases he has, only his final one really pushes the limits of "ok, this is nonsense" and that is really only for that fact that having an opening to land a hit on him is very limited. Due to the length of the fight, its really just more of an endurance match that anything (it takes 15 minutes to down him on Nightmare, maybe a little less with Kaos). I will admit though, boss fights like TT Kaos, while not "that" hard imo, make me question if Skylanders is really a "kids" game.... Giants on Nightmare really made me wonder that alot too. Just a bit more time, then a video will be up of Kaos (Nightmare) being made into nothing more then another notch in my checklist... Heh.

Not looking forward to doing it again on Nightmare Difficulty. But I loved his design and music (Phase 3-5). |

Has anyone tried a Swap Force Character yet matching the bullets? My wife and daughter have monopolized the t.v. since this was posted and haven't had a chance to try it. Also has anyone tried the SSA Adventure Pack "Mega Bomb of Doom" set pieces? Do they still do like 10K damage?
