he jumps about 3-4 times and each time it wasn't very much gold.
seriously--with a swapper it was 158 each time, punch pop fizz 132...so it must be a base of 125 gold

It's worth it with giant chests. I believe it was 5000 gp each of the initial jumps and 15000 gp for the final one.

Even so, 35 gems for 25,000 gold? That's not a very good deal. If you have a trap and energy to spare, it might be ok.

I don't know why you'd spend gems to trap any of the villains. Gems are too valuable. Trap him with a trap!

As hard as it is to imagine when you're at the lower levels, by the time you've maxed out, you do end up generating more gems than you can spend. As you can see above, jmarquis has over 27,000. To toss 35 on a villain just for the fun of it is nothing at that point.

I momentarily have nothing else to spend gems on, and I guess if I had 27,000 of them rather than 6,000 I'd feel differently. But I'm 1-2 new 3,000+ gem companions away from have no gems again so I won't be throwing them away trapping villains.

If you have 27K gems, you have a ridiculous amount of gold. You've probably spun for all of the new Skylanders already and have plenty of traps for each element.

All true except for the traps part - for that, you still have to wait for the traptanium to appear. I've been able to produce less than a dozen traps so far because I just don't seem to be getting the traptanium. (~10k gems, 300M gold, 14M energy, all 168 Skylanders currently available in-game).

I can imagine an overload on gems just fine. I am level 45, 167 Skylanders, 225 million gold, and have a good income of them with only a few things left to buy (more for completeness than anything). No, 35 gems isn't bad if you have no other use for them, but the value in gold vs. currency makes that a horrible conversion. Gold loses value in the game FAR before gems do. Isn't it like 500,000 gold for 25 gems from Diggs (I always use energy which lost value even before gold did for me)?

I can see spending some gems to "acquire" a villain the first time, I've done that. It makes sense since no one wants that empty slot for the magic villain and it is otherwise unobtainable at present. But, we are more looking at the rewards. If you have 27,000 gems I'm betting 25,000 gold is worthless to you - and to someone where it might be meaningful (like my son's kingdom) 35 gems is a HUGE price.
