Stratey Guide [CLOSED]

Is there going to be another edition coming out, because the original one doesn't have the mystery elements and the new adventure packs.
Also, the guide had a lot of errors in it:
1) Chef Pepper Jack and Chompy Mage's quests are the same
2) Bruiser Cruiser is not listed on it
3) Upgrade pics are wrong ... again
4) Funny Bone's attacks are the wrong way around
5) Minor spelling errors

There should be based on the points you've mentioned, but personally I will be more than a bit annoyed if the one I brought is going to be replaced with a more accurate, more up to date one.

I got a Swap Force one as soon as it came out. Can't recall there being much missing. Not like whole hidden areas that aren't shown like in Trap Team. Either way it's annoying.

The cover is certainly different to mine, but I can't tell from that link what's different about the internal pages.

Friend of mine contacted Brady Games and they told him that they are planning to release a digital update of the guide, no indication when of course as the other 2 elements haven't been officially announced. They said that there is a free digital download code in each book. I will have to have a look for this later in mine.

Wonder if that means they won't be releasing a print one? Digital seems to make sense and if it's free for people who have already brought the book then I have no problem with that.

Was there any discount with the revised SF one for people who had purchased the original one?

Yes. It was less and pocket size rather than a large one. Often I can find it at TRU. I believe the smaller SF strategy guide was $14.99 USD.

No discount for anyone who'd already bought one, but the revised guide was much smaller and cheaper than any of the original ones (standard, collector's, etc.).

While your details are spot on, there wasn't any discount offered to anyone who'd bought the previous version. The guide was cheaper than the first ones released but everybody had to pony up $14.99 to buy the shrunken, revised edition.

Unfortunately, I was really young, when the Internet as we know it was still in it's early days, and I was waaaay too casual (Spyro, Crash and Croc were my only games, don't even know if they had guides), to get into strategy guides.

However, now that Internet is more or less a common thing, it's quite logical to assume it will gain more and more quality, thus making older media less... "reliable", in a certain way.

This, however isn't an excuse for mistakes in paper guides.
They should still have an high quality.

In the back of every guide there is a generic code for an online guide. That's where the updates will go...they may print another guide but doubtful since that code is the same for everyone and actually can be used without purchasing the guide.

It seems to me, based on what people on this forum say, that the game is still being 'tweaked' up until not long before the launch. I assume the printing of the books would need to be organised well in advance of the actual release date of the game so perhaps the guides are accurate when they are sent to print but things change beyond the control of Brady Games which leads to the odd discrepancy? Doesn't explain spelling mistakes of course, but maybe that is a problem with things not being 100% accurate in the guides.

I'm fine with it as long as they give me a free online solution.

that is in fact the case and why there is errors in the guide. i think they should have waited and released after the game released. it just makes sense....

Right, my point is people get lazy and do the "we'll release an update" and ship it.

Back in "my day", you got it right or went home. And really, games had more "hidden" tricks and secrets than games these days...that's what made guides so much fun to read.

that is the attitude i like, you do things right, dont do it half arsed... things are so lazy done now these days, its starting to be a huge problem. and i as a customer is starting to question if its worth using my money on these things. they dont give a crap, why should i support it, its that simple...

It's more like a sourcebook. I have the previous 3. It goes more in-depth with the game itself, though it does list the powers of the Skylanders. If you want to know more, check out the other three at Barnes and Noble or any bookstore. They're an excellent read though they are in the kids' section.

Ah, I see. Haha. I don't buy things like that, so I know it's not for me. Heck, I don't even buy guide books anymore, even for games like Dragon Age. Oh well. Guess we will see if a revised guide book is released or not.

Oh, yes, that's true.

Any Skylanders game, so far, had secrets or hidden collectibles that couldn't be' found with a proper exploration of the level (and eventual special characters to unlock Gates or solve "puzzles".

All the first three Spyro games had a set of special cheats that even the most precise and hardcore player could't have found by themselves.

Not to mention Style Points... Aaaaaah... I miss those games... Luckily we still have Skylanders (and other titles), in this world of FPS, sport or driving simulators and AAA series...

Well... Technically Skylanders IS a AAA title...
Uuuuh... Well, you got my point. smilie
