"Tenebrae, it means darkness."
Somewhere deep in the forest of an unknown region laid a baby, it was bat-like and small, and clearly very afraid. Everything was new to the creature, it had just gained the ability of sight and it stumbled about, trying to gain balance on its stubby little feet, it couldn't stand, it couldn't fly, it couldn't fend for itself, it is was good as dead. "Noi..." It squeaked, in pain, cold and alone, "Noi." It said again, frightened of the darkness that surrounded it, it was abandoned, alone due to a defect, it was too small. WHOOSH, something was in the forest with the baby, it sounded big, the sounds of its footprints seemed to drag on into the night in a perfect echo, to accompany its loud footsteps it roared and growled, surely this was the sound of death, of destruction, of despair. Cold and alone, abandoned. "Noi.." One final time. It could not move for it knew nothing of the world and how it worked, all it knew was it was afraid and it wanted someone to comfort it despite not even knowing the feeling of comfort yet. The big, unknown creature came closer, an Ursaring, standing at 5'11, while not an abnormal size for a bear it was frightening for the bat lying on the cold, hard ground. the bat was just under a foot tall, it cowered at the size of the large Ursaring and tried to cry but couldn't, its tear ducts weren't even fully developed. The Ursaring roared loudly and looked down to the bat, ready to feast on it, but another noise could be heard in the depths of the forest, something bigger. A Hyperbeam appeared through a clearing of bushes and sent the bear flying back into a tree, the attacker, a Garchomp, standing at 6'3, a clear winner in the size competition between the three. "Use Roar!" A voice called out, the voice was loud, but soft, so gentle, it pleased the bat creatures' ears, it sounded high-pitched and strong. The Garchomp did as told, roaring and causing the Ursaring to flee.
"Are you alright?" The same voice said. The voice seemed kind and caring and it made the baby happy. "Noi!" It cried out, opening its eyes to see a beautiful girl before him. She stood at 5'9 and had long brown hair that curled at the bottom, she wore a pink and white outfit, accompanied by a yellow bookbag, the Garchomp stood next to her, clearly tired from the Hyperbeam it let out. "You're so small and cute and I want to just eat you up!" The bat squeaked. "N-Not eat you! I mean....It's an expression, silly." She giggled and it made the bat smile. "You're a Noibat, right?" A Noibat....Was that what he was? He didn't know, he knew nothing of the world. "Noibat..." The creature said, happy to know it knew who it was. "Ugh...I'm sick of this forest and its Tenebrae!" The girl was clearly a scholar, she carried multiple books in her bookbag, one being an English to Latin dictionary. "Oh! Tenebrae, it means darkness. Hey..." The girl thought for a moment before gently picking the Noibat up. "I'm going to call you Tenebrae....." The voice trailed off as the Noibat, now known as Tenebrae, closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep
"Meet the gang!"
The morning of the next day had arrived, sun shining high up in the sky, not a gray cloud in sight, it was the perfect day. The tiny bat opened its eyes to bear witness to its new-found friend setting up camp in front of him, helping her were six others, Pokémon, they all looked so strong. The girl noticed his tiny eyes open and shot Tenebrae a large, brimming smile "Meet the gang!" There was Garchomp, the Mach Pokémon, she was tall and scary but Noibat knew she was a friend from how she saved him, her name was Caetus. Then there was Charizard, he was big and hotheaded, not to mention hot-tailed! His name was Ignis. There was Zilla, the Tyranitar, he looked like a large brute who bullied many but was kind and had a heart of gold. Next there was Haunter, he was playful and goofy, always trying to make others laughed, he went by the name of Larua. Then there was Flygon, he was quick and smart, his name was Volans. Finally, there was Umbreon, he was dark and mysterious, distant, his name was Umbra. Then there was the girl, her name was Melody.
"You don't need wings to know how to fly!"
It had been a week since they had met and things were going great, the days were filled with fun and enjoyment and Tenebrae couldn't have been happier by that. "Time to eat up!" The girl exclaimed, she always seemed to be peppy and excited no matter the situation and Tenebrae tried to be the same as her, but that day was different, he had seen her Pokémon battle and he had seen how Ignis, Larua, and Volans could soar through the air, he was envious, like a Bagon yearning for the skies so did he, the only difference was he had wings, he just didn't know how to use them. Tenebrae whined as he watched them fly through the air with such grace and elegance and ease! It was amazing and invigorating to watch. Melody could tell Tenebrae wanted that so, and she was determined to help him fly. "I can teach you." She said, smiling as she always did. "Noi?" The creature was confused, how could someone who had never flown teach someone to fly? She had no wings, just long, skinny arms. "It's easy, c'mon!" She picked him up and up a tree they went, to the tallest point the could find. "Alright, now close your eyes and then jump, and flap! flap as hard and as fast as you can!" It was odd, it almost seemed like a sure murder plot to send a baby Noibat out of a tree as tall as this one was, but he jumped. Tenebrae could feel the rush of adrenaline, he felt the wind blowing through his fur and it felt great, he opened his eyes and flapped as hard as he could, and to his suprise he flew! He soared and did loops. Back in the tree the girl smiled. "Good job Larua..." She said softly. Melody had instructed the Haunter to go invisible and hold the bat, soar around with it, make it think it could fly, and he did just that, that is, until he let go and Tenebrae flew on his own. "Whoo! See?!? I told ya! You don't need wings to know how to fly!" She cheered and climbed down out of the tree, catching him as he descended after his flight. "Noi! Noi!" The creature cried happily. It was truly the best day of his life so far.
