Why introduce new elements NOW? :< Why not release ONE unknown trap master with original release? :< Why not release ONE unknown trap with original release? :< Or Wave 2 for either? :< Any news when they plan to release either? :< SIDE NOTE: Any news for release of a Magic Trap Master (as that's the only one I haven't seen yet)?

Tae Kwon Crow and Blaster-Tron seem like really cool Villains. So cannot wait to play as them, including the last two mystery Doom Raiders.

I'm assuming it's because they're the big bosses of those levels. They're still important, but not Doom Raider important.

I agree...BUT in all honesty it HAD to be this way for the marketing and for providing reasoning on the trap storage solutions.

What's so funny is that they read this forum and they KNEW the cat would be out of the bag literally HOURS after the release of the game (based on past game hacks), so I consider the whole idea a colossal marketing failure as a result. Providing additional content as a DOWNLOAD in the future would've made this an ACTUAL surprise for all. It would've been hard to hack it if the resources provided by this content wasn't available on the disc at launch.

Most players aren't going to be reading this forum, though. And if they did it as a download, Wii players (and possibly Wii U players due to the limited storage space) - plus anybody without an Internet connection for their console - wouldn't be able to use the new elements.

Here's my guess for releases. Wave 3 will have a magic trap master, no light or dark trap master. Wave 4 will have one or the other trap master, and wave 5 will have the other new element. Keeps you in until the end.

Ah this quickly turned into a digital download topic like a lot of the other ones have generated towards. My 2 cents on it is....... it doesn't work well in this era maybe in 2020 digital downloading will be a thing. It takes hours to download 18 GB. I'm not sure why it's brought up like it downloads in 20 mins or less. Half of the users here own a White Wii U.

The short version of it is not everyone that uses the Wii U has it online. Some don't even have it connected to the internet at all. It's not something Activision wants to risk, having people need to use an internet connection to play a part of the game in a patch.

I agree that it's not a good solution. However, I do think that it's the least bad solution they had.

(Or perhaps second-least-bad - theoretically it might have been possible to encrypt the files and put the decryption key in the new toys. But that assumes that the toys would support it, and that it wouldn't cause performance issues.)

There are 8 traps labeled as "?" on the collection box. are those ALL going to be new traps? If there are 6 villains for the dlc packs (3 per level im assuming), that still leaves 2 traps labeled as "?". as a collector i want to be sure if i can afford to buy a repeat trap or not.

i dont like digital, digital you never own and is just a shallow rental... i have simply no interest in it. also it means for me as a customer less consumer rights. why people whine about digital as a second coming and solution to everything is beyond me, because it is not. if these companies got everything digital, gaming would end up as a netflix service where you pay by the hours, and you can kiss all your customers rights goodbye.

buying a physical product and owning it is the right thing to do....

Your usage of "traps" and "villains" confuses me, so I'm going to have to say more than you probably were asking for, sorry about that.

The collection box only shows the amount of villains, not traps. While there are 8 "Unknown" Villains, five of them are in the main story, Lob Goblin is in Nightmare Express, and the last two each has an adventure pack where they're the only trappable villain.

Traps are 6 per original element (usually more than the amount of villains) and 3 per each new element - surprisingly 1 less than the amount of villains for each element.

We do not know the packaging options for the new traps, but I believe it's safe to assume there's one in each of the adventure packs, while the other two designs (per element) are available in singles. You can most likely simply buy two identical single traps, if you really want to have a trap for every of the unknown Villains.

Ah i see, thanks for the clarification. I interchanged the terms villain and trap because in an ideal world, theres an individual molded trap for every villain.

It is entirely possible the light or dark adventure pack or whatever could come with an updated poster. The poster doesn't matter much to me. I would prefer a way to replace the stock trap tray in the TRU trap box with an updated tray with no question marks. The poster doesn't have any effect on anything, in the grand scheme, but with the trap tray, it is supposed to tell you which villain is in which trap, and it can't do that well with like 10 "?" spaces.

It might come with stickers to put over the question marks, like the stickers you put over the characters you have on the poster, but these would basically fill in the character/traps on the tray. A bit of wishful thinking but it would be a huge oversight not to do something like that.

I'm not against little bit of innovation, but the adding of 2 elements would fit in the story?
I've only made 6 chapter so far but i doubt the light and dark would be coherent with the whole game.

I mean, putting a hot dog in a chocolate cake, even if they are good separately, makes no sense!

The fact of letting "?" gates is more disturbing than exciting, it puts you out of the universe.

When I started this post, it was in regards to the unknown guys NOT being released at the beginning of the game. I must be the only person here with a bit of OCD and like to get 3 stars on my levels BEFORE moving on to the next. But with the introduction of unknown elements, along with only allowing Trap masters to open elemental gates, you can't do that! THAT is what makes me angry! Allow players to have all options available to them at game release, not wait until Wave 4 or 5 to release an unknown or possibly a Magic Trap master. They don't need to release ALL of the characters at the beginning, but they should have at least one Trap master and trap available for each element at the games release or in Wave 2 (since they only waited a week for Wave 2). SIDE NOTE: I have the Wii and I think if they ever discontinue the production of the Skylander series for it, they will lose ALOT of sales as I've invested ALOT of money toward the characters and NOW you want me to buy a new system too and I wouldn't be the only one facing that problem!

Millerman by this time next year the only new game coming out for the Wii would be skylanders if they do make skylanders 5 for it. I see the Wii as a dying console right now, because nothing is coming out for it anymore, not because it is a bad system. I love my Wii but it is an old system, but I don't want Nintendo to try a Gamecube and extend its life longer than needed with inferior ports of games.

Honestly... I'm glad that they didn't release everything right away... gives the game a much longer lifespan. I forced myself to make it last almost a week, but with characters to level up and upgrade theres always something else I can do. I don't care that I have to wait a few months until the new elements are released because at that point the replay factor of the game is fresh again and I can go back through and complete it 100%.

Basically what you're saying is you want a game you can beat in a couple days and toss aside for something else, then you'd probably complain about it being too short right? also the wii is a dying system... I stopped getting skylanders for the wii after giants and got it for ps3 instead, the wii just can't keep up with graphics much anymore. It may be time for you to invest in a new system, I know its hard and expensive but the wii u is pretty great from what I've experienced of it.

Actually Sky, its played nearly everyday of the year here by my 3 kids and myself. That is an advantage to having 4 save spots for the game... each of us can play our own story. None of these have been easy but I, myself, hate waiting on certain characters for certain areas. Release one of each at the beginning and then start dragging it out. As for the Wii, it's the only system we own and it caters towards the kids more than any other system. I will EVENTUALLY get a PS4 or Xbox 1 but not anytime soon. And by the time I get those, they, too, will be antiquated and I will be forced to buy another system. It's a never ending cycle!

i'm guessing you're not new to the cycle of technology and in the video game business things go retro and the wii's time for that happened as soon as the wii u came out in 2013. the wii lasted 6 years which was a pretty long time, but there's a good chance it won't be supported beyond trap team. there's even a downloadable version for the wii u included for the wii which they did as incentive to upgrade so you're still getting the game at 2 copies instead of one right now. i don't think next time they'll do that.

i have a wii and liked it a lot, but the problem with it was the lack of great third party except for a few good titles like you have and the fact they gutted many of the old features nintendo forces you to upgrade. all companies do this to sell more of their newer product.

overall from this topic i haven't dived into trap team yet since i'm still looking for a few traps but it's not looking good from what they did. this'll probably be the final game i'll tackle of the series.

what also makes the wii u better is you don't even need a tv to run the system. skylanders makes great use of the tablet controller and you can have people just play on that without running a tv at all. worked awesome for me in using it for giants and even playing some of swap force on it. i'm more to use the ps4 right now due to the record ability for the gameplay but using wii u is my other option for these games.
---
Taking that last ride through the sunset on skylanders. Hopefully a return of more classic spyro gameplay in the horizon.

My issue is that, when they hold content for so long, I'm bored with the game by the time the last waves release. I can't tell you how frustrated I was when Scratch FINALLY came out. I loaded up the game, played for a few minutes, and just had 0 interest in replaying the content. I had completed EVERYTHING already. At the very least, there will be a smidge of content unlocking with the new elements coming out, even if it's just a few elemental gates. Chances are, I'll need them to wrap up my star count and I'll stop playing very shortly thereafter.

To be honest Sirrus, I agree but it's pretty clear they're not being released for us early adopters, but instead for the after-Christmas crowd when a bunch of people will get the game new. Maybe when the dust settled it'd been nicer if this game had some of the stuff they added into Swap Force such as the bonus missions and score/time attack levels with stars of their own.

That said, the added levels are fun, so if you're going to get them you won't be disappointed there.

Agreed. STT seems to have way less content that would contribute to replay value. I mean, Rap Battles? Really? Still, for all its hamartia, I am enjoying it. I just fear I'll stop enjoying it long before I complete my collection.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them wait until beyond January. Maybe even Q2. The way they're unveiling this seems different than the past, and I suspect they're trying to shore up one area of their business model that I have always wondered about - that the first sixth months of a release of Skylanders MUST be more lucrative than the second half, when people have worn out on the game and played it through.

I realize that the other side of the argument is that they might lose money by holding content back until the luster has worn off the product regardless of the new releases, but I'm thinking they're also hedging their bets there by releasing such a bevy of figures this time around. And, I would think in spite of this risk, they would want to try anyway, as I would be concerned with how to lengthen the big sales window of each Skylander release if I were Activision.
