I will be having the game on my Wii first, but I am getting a Wii U later. I would like to know how that... code works. I have no idea.

When you get your Wii U. You can enter the code in the eshop and download the game. You'll need external storage and a Nintendo network ID.

If you're getting the black Wii U, an external hard drive isn't needed. Just connect to the eshop from the main menu, tap at the top where it says redeem code and type it in!

Its a >14gig Download.
If you don't have a HD plugged into your WiiU GET ONE NOW. Not sure if USB sticks work, but a 128gig USB stick would be a good choice. I have a bare 2.5" HDD with a SATAtoUSB adapter as my storage. Not sure there is a transfer option, so if you change storage you need to re-download it all. That can take days. |

Also, keep in mind the Wii U code expires, I thought I read somewhere it wouldn't be usable after end of October, but let me just check on that.
EDIT: Scratch that, it's Oct 2017, you got plenty of time.

a 32gb wiiu should be enough, if your not filled it up with a lot of other games... so you dont have to mess with external storage.

You should definitely NOT use USB sticks for storage. They burn out very easily because they're not made for constant saving and loading. And if that happens, you'll lose everything on it. Nintendo specifically recommends against using them. |

Seriously? Have you looked up the stats for the number of reads/writes for modern flash storage?
If it works for a Windows Boot disk it's fine for a couple games on the WiiU that are 99.9% read only. I didn't think the saves even went on the external storage. Even if it does then it's nothing compared to the lifetime of a decent stick. Don't buy cheap non-brand fake garbage and you will not have a problem. |

Nope he is right about not using a flash drive with a Wii U. Not only does Nintendo advise you not to but it does burn out very easily. Some of my friends played the Download version of monster hunter on a flash drive and it burned it out in about a couple of months (they called Nintendo and they where told that the game saves the save file to the same place the game is stored and some games that auto save read/write back to the flash drive about 10 times every time you see a loading bar or loading screen. Nintendo even admits its a bit of a flaw in the Wii U.
