Archie Meets Predator is a four-issue mini-series planned for Spring 2015. The series will be helmed by writer Alex de Campi (Grindhouse, Valentine) and seminal Archie artist Fernando Ruiz. And don't let the innocent art style fool you. This comic is shaping up to be every bit as violent as the Predator films. Archie Meets Predator is the publisher's latest foray into mature-readers territory after books like Afterlife With Archie and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

De Campi told USA Today that the story begins as Jughead wins a contest and the Riverdale crew take a trip down to sunny Costa Rica for spring break. After putting Betty in his sights, the Predator will follow the gang back to Riverdale and begin the hunt in earnest.

De Campi said the concept appealed to her, "because it's just completely insane. Let's take this gentle, beloved, classic teen cast and hunt them down and slaughter them one by one. Seriously, if you wouldn't jump at the chance to write something like this, you need your head examined. She continued, "Doing teens and horror with humor is something I've done really successfully in my Grindhouse series, especially the story 'Flesh Feast of the Devil Doll.' And, you know, if you have no love for the classic Predator film, I am sad for you."

The writer also noted that the normally family-friendly tone of the Archie Comics isn't getting in the way of telling a violent horror mash-up. "The Archie team are really supportive of all the horrible things I'm doing to their beloved characters — in fact, they suggested a few of them. We certainly won't have the dark, slow-burn kind of horror in Afterlife with Archie or Sabrina, for one reason because the book will be drawn by legendary Archie artist Fernando Ruiz."
