1 ps3 trap team (1 master,1 core,2 trap)
1 3ds (2 master,1 mini)
14 trap masters
15 core
2 triple reap packs
2 adventure packs

the total cost -> 838 dollar

left to buy...
1 mini (2 minis spry/jini)
1 kaos trap
light/black packs
guide book
bag/box (to have everything in)

i expect another 200 dollar for the rest i havent bought yet....

its very nice to read about all the bugs/glitches and the unfinished but released product.. when you gotta pay 1038 dollars to get the full game experience... i'm so glad i am not buying the game this year.

Only tomorrow (D1 for Europe) I'm gonna spend around 150€.

The PS4 regular Starter Pack, Nightmare Express Adventure Pack, Krypt King, Chopper and the Magic Skull Trap.

Yeah, I would be really glad not to spend that much money, but since unlike you I really like the game, and can get past a few bugs that can be fixed with a patch, I guess I will just have to enjoy another year of my life playing an awesome Skylanders game... smilie

I just did this:

Dark Starter ($100)
Nightmare Express ($16 - TRU BOGO 40%)

4 trapmasters ($54 - TRU BOGO 40% - hopefully)

6 traps (Guessing $5 each since I'm waiting for cooler ones - Wave 1 is a'ight...$30)

3ds starter (Hoping for a sale...Black Friday? Probably going to be an Easter gift...so eventually there will be one..Guessing $30-40)

1 more trapmaster to round out 1 of each element (magic element) ($15)

Mirror of Mystery ($25)

Probably a couple other things for kicks and giggles ie: minis...this dark/light trap thing...maybe a random "he's cool dad" figure...($40)

Total: $320 + tax...so about $340-350 for the Skylanders Dad household looks to be the approximate final damage.

CountMoneyBone has been complaining about things post after post now. While I respect everyone's right to an opinion, he's made his quite clear and really should stop now. It boils down to control, similar to when you go gamble at a casino. They have a saying "no your limit, play within it". If you've got a lot of spare cash, then buy every sculpt and villain variant trap. If you want to enjoy the game, buy the basics or wait for sales. We all know (whether we take advantage of it or not) that the game will drop by at least half-price, and sales galore will occur for figures....especially one who is extremely patient and waits till the next game is announced or released!

your allowed to have your opinion i dont mind. but i dont see it like i have complained a lot, there is a lot of people complaining here at the forum(there is nothing strange about it). maybe you just read mine posts, who do i know. anyway i dont mind, you have your opinion, i have my have opinion. anyway since this thread is about costs i would like to hear what your cost are gonna be. prices difference from country to country etc. in my country skylanders are more expensive and aren't that popular, so from wave 3 and out there is no sales. because they disappear from the shelves and the wave5, the last one is very hard to get the figures for in shops.

You really have to factor in sales in your numbers. I spent no where near full price on what I bought and I got a pretty good haul so far. If you are a collector, sales are your friend. TRU almost always has a sale going on, Best Buy has Gamer's Club for those that have it (and I highly recommend it if you buy a lot of games if you can get it on sale, a 20% discount on top of any other sale price rocks) and even Target gives 5% with a Red Card.

I definitely wouldn't have picked up as much Saturday night if they didn't have a Buy 1 Get 1 50% off, and also got a free Legendary Adventure Pack with my Dark Starter. I'm trying to be much more selective this time, I'm only doing 1 trap per element, and skipping the Minis (already have 8 Sidekicks) and Reposes. You just need to be selective and watch for deals instead of just grabbing them the first place you see them, it's come a long way since SSA where you were lucky to find some figures and had to get them when you found them regardless of sales.

The figures I look at it this way, you are getting something physical for them - it isn't just to play a video game. My youngest loves to play with the figures, and they really are priced competitively with other figures that don't do anything in a video game. TMNT, Team Titan Go figures, Transformers, Mario Collectibles etc. are all about the same price as Skylanders for similarly sized figures. But, when I buy a Skylander I also get more content in the game, the 3DS game (also on my cut list this year, though), and Lost Islands for both me and my son's kingdoms. It really isn't that bad of a deal if you have kids that like to play with figures.

The main thing is making yourself "ok" with not having everything. Do you really need Minis since they play like harder to see, more annoying sounding versions of their "parents"? Do you really need every trap so you can capture a villain and never, ever swap him out of the trap? Do you really need a third or fourth version of a character (repose or variant) that isn't very different from the one you had 3 games ago and still works fine? Do you need more than one Trap Master per element? These are all constraints we place upon ourselves, it is just a matter of reaching a comfort level for what you consider "complete" for your own collection goals.

I'm confused, have you or have you not bought the game? You say "I haven't bought yet" indicating you HAVE bought some of it, then you say you are glad you are not buying it. So which is it?

Anyway if you aren't going to/haven't bought it, then just don't buy it and move on, glad of your own willpower, and focus on other games or look forward to Skylanders 5. But if something is still pulling you here, as it seems to, maybe you should buy JUST the starter pack, actually play the game (as usual despite pay walls the majority of the game is still playable with just the starter pack), and decide if all the stuff that bugs you about it is really as bad as it sounds. Or borrow a copy from a friend, if you have the option. The base game still adds value to all of your existing collection as it gives you new levels to beat and bosses to defeat with existing characters you own, extending their adventures, so there's always that. As I pointed out in my own topic, there's plenty I'm upset about with this game, but there's also a lot of stuff I LOVE about it, so it sucks to have mixed feelings but I'm still enjoying it quite a bit, more than Swap Force for sure, despite its many glaring issues.

But this was your list:

1 ps3 trap team (1 master,1 core,2 trap)
1 3ds (2 master,1 mini)
14 trap masters
15 core
2 triple reap packs
2 adventure packs

And it isn't even close to the "bare minimum". You can drop the 3DS version, half the Trap Masters, ALL of the core and still get the "full experience" of the game. If you mean to include "play as every available figure", you would have to include much more than that by factoring in the previous 80 playable Skylanders AND the 15 other minis, so it isn't just a Trap Team problem.

It's all in how you define the "full experience". And that is a constraint you place upon yourself. How much can you convince yourself is "enough"?

For example, I'm currently playing Dark Souls 2 after the kids go to bed. That game has had three additional DLC packs at $10 each. Some people played the game to the ending and consider themselves "done". Others need to collect everything to be "done". Some don't consider themselves "done" without doing all the DLC. I'm really enjoying it, so I set my goal at "all bosses, including DLC and optional ones defeated and all Achievements". To get the full achievements, you have to either grind covenants (and some are really painful since the game isn't new anymore and it would require helping "newbies") to get some spells or play through the whole game almost three full times, which I chose. Now some may consider that crazy, particularly if they aren't fond of the punishing difficulty - but who is to argue that the option shouldn't be there to those that wish to do it?

This isn't a dig at you, just an observation that your issue might lie with how you define your "full experience" if it is outside your budget. The biggest problem I had with our new collection strategy is convincing ourselves we are ok with us not having some things.
