Been pondering this one carefully, and I'm curious what other people's takes on it are. Long story short having a bunch of shelf space and finishing up one's older collection is not always an easy feat, but to get everything in the game you'll need at least one of each to unlock the gates. So given the gameplay videos it's a matter of figuring out which ones. What I'm going with is as follows:
-Undead: Short Cut (sorry Krypt King, I know you're a legacy character but Scissorman beats you out).
-Magic: Enigma
-Fire: Dark Wildfire (comes with dark starter)
-Water: Dark Snapshot (see above)
-Earth: Head Rush (possibly Nitro due to being harder to get later)
-Life: Bushwhack (feels more unique of the two)
-Wind: Thunderbolt (I've seen Gusto in person. Yeah...)
-Tech: Gearshift (more female presence)

Anyone else thinking down this same road and if so, which ones?

I'm getting one of each element (and one core of each element), Here's what I plan on getting

Undead: Nitro Krypt King
Magic: Enigma - Blastermind seems kind of meh and Enigma looks awesome
Fire: Dark Wildfire - Comes with the game and I love Lions
Water: Dark Snapshot - same comes with the game
Earth: Head Rush or Nitro Head Rush if I can get it - She just seems much more unique than Wallop and her weapon is cool
Life: Tough Luck - Something about her weapons just seem awesome
Wind: Gusto - I don't know why, I like Thunderbolt's design, but Gusto just looks more unique and funner to play with
Tech: Legendary Jawbreaker - I loved Jawbreakers design for some reason when he was first revealed and he seems awesome to play with

Well I'm getting every one. BUT if I had to choose...

Like I said, I'll be getting every one anyway.

I have been having the same problem. I only want one TM and one core per element. Its easy on some elements and hard on some. I'm leaning towards this so far:

Undead: This is a tough one. I think I like Nitro Krypt King more, but Shortcut is a unique character so idk.
-Magic: Enigma hands down!
-Fire: Wildfire is the one I'm leaning towards. Both characters look good, but I think I like Wildfires abilities more.
-Water: Snap Shot comes in the starter so its a given and Lob Star looks okay, but not that great to me.
-Earth: Never cared for Earth characters. Wallop seems unoriginal by having hammers, so I'll definitely get Head Rush.
-Life: Another Tuff one I love Bushwhack but Tuff Luck looks good as well....
-Wind: Gusto looks boring so I would go with Thunderbolt.
-Tech: I would have to choose Gearshift since I already have her preordered. I like the Legendary version of Jawbreaker though but he still seems unoriginal and lame.

Jawbreaker, Wildfire, Krypt King, Tuff Luck, Enigma, Thunderbolt, Wallop and then (of course) the two unknown element trap masters.

I'll most likely get all, but my preference is:

for Water
for Fire
for Air (I don't like either, to be honest)
for Earth
for Magic
for Tech
for Undead
And for LIFE, my absolute favorite:
(Since the remaining only have one each, there's no option ;P)

Tough one! Granted, I do not collect everything...only those I like. So far I want a lot when it comes to Trap Team. But If I had no choice:

-Magic: Enigma

-Water: Lob-Star
-Earth: Head Rush
-Undead: Short Cut
-Life: Tuff Luck
-Wind: Gusto
-Tech: Gearshift

Air - Can't decide. I like Gusto in terms of design and I like Thunder Bolt in terms of attacks.
Earth - Wallop
Tech - I'm not keen on either. But if I had to choose, it would be Jaw Breaker.

Prefer Lob Star, but he comes in both console starters.

The first ones that come out. Except Blastermind. Gonna wait for Enigma if he's the first Magic guy to come out.

Life: she's the only female life skylander besides stealth elf
Air: I don't like either one of them but Gusto seems more fun to play as
Undead: Looks VERY powerfull
Tech: unique and different and I don't like Jawbreaker
Water: I actually like both but he's in the starter pack
Fire: ka-boom just sucks
Earth: yodeling... nuff' said

My list is quite obvious

1.Undead clearly the coolest and most original Trap Master and will be my favorite fighter.
2.Life I think he's cool and I really dig that cool axe he uses.
3.Water How can anyone not like this guy? He's beyond awesome and my bro gets so Lob Star is all mine.
4.Fire pretty cool guy, seems strong and I want to help him break the dreaded boom curse this game seems to have.
5.Tech He was the first Trap Master I got to have when the game was being shown as my bro kept wanting most of them from the beginning.
6.Earth Pretty cool girl and just seems boring to me. Hope she can satisfy my play style.
7.Magic Sadly maybe the biggest pity out of all of them. I like , but my bro really wanted this guy and it's not all bad. I like underdogs and this guy really need more appreciation. Besides his gameplay looks fun.
8.Air Been defending this guy from the very beginning of this games' reveal. I want to help him show his full potential and have everyone see that he is one cool Trap Master.
