I just found this cool glitch which quite literally makes Spyro immortal!
What you do is you take the tunnel on the far right, which takes you to the other field with the little tower, travel up the whirlwind to the top of the tower and then glide to the hilly upland. Then you go to your left towards the castle and glide down to the mini beach from there. Now what you do now is jump into the sea three times and Sparx will disappear and then go up the whirlwind and stand right between the doorway and Astor (Make sure you stand right infront of Astor) and the ram will headbutt you, but instead of dying, it will knock you onto Astor, freeing him. Afterwards, Spyro is still alive and if anything attacks you, Spyro won't get hurt!

You can even walk on the water but the only thing is you can't jump back onto land afterwards and you're stuck.

NOTE: This doesn't work with Alvar and the bulls in Town Square

thats cool but would be much better if it was in a place where you would get attacked often like misty bog. but its still awesome

I've tried this glitch a few times, they are on YouTube as I type. I've never seen many glitches in the first game, so it was awesome to try some.

Well, I suggest reading my 'Glitch Heaven' topic. Seriously, there are LOADS of glitches in this game. Well, I know there are more even neater ones on YotD... 60 to be exact.

Does that glitch work anywhere else or just in Stone Hill?

I saw in terrace village and jaques when they used cyprin and revilo respectively.

Well it realy dose work in town square make the bull ram you into the dragon go to where the theif is and go to the water (you need to make sure theres no sparks)
