I just got a response back from Activision support about the Magic Sanctuary issue. They said they are actively working a fix for the problem but they didn't have an update when that would happen. Hold tight and expect a fix soon.

I just gave up on the fix and reverted to the backup I made just before updating to iOS8. Hello Sanctum and FFF Hut!!!

I am glad everything has worked out fine for you . Losing a sanctuary is a game killer.

I talked to someone at Activision just now who was clearly reading a script and had no idea about anything. They gave me 2200 gems but claimed they weren't going to be able to fix it, which conflicted with other reports I've heard, including this one. They did helpfully offer to reimburse me if I restarted from level 1...

Can't you currently buy the sanctum? If they gave you 2200 gems, isn't that enough?

^ This. Still says that it needs a requirement to even buy it. Seems like they should just give it to everyone for free at this point and save themselves more headache.

There are a couple of problems right now:

1) If you purchased the small sanctuary prior to upgrading to IOS 8 the sanctuary was removed from the game most likely due to a corruption during the IOS 8 upgrade process. The object file was most likely removed, or unable to be read, and the game loaded without the artwork.
2) Sanctuaries, either original or upgraded 'smaller' buildings cannot be removed from the game or put into storage.
3) There is a requirement to upgrading your sanctuary - you must have the original prior to purchasing the upgraded version.
4) Because the original is no longer in the game, and cannot be placed, you cannot purchase the upgraded building.

In my opinion we won't see a fix until a Monday update (hopefully today). The problem is the sanctuaries cannot be put into storage which means they need an option to place the item on an island which means you need to have space cleared. It wouldn't be a problem except they have 1,000,000 (give or take 999,990) different spawns that pop up on open space.


***EDIT*** After typing the word 'sanctuary' 10+ times and realizing how hard that word is to spell I realized they are actually called 'sanctums.' I've never called myself smart.

I think Sanctuary is the title for the large old ones, and Sanctum is the title for the upgrade... Still, that post does identify the main issues, and I also hope for a resolution today. Very little chance of getting the extra magic shrine I missed from the quest, but I have 4 already so I think I'll live. I have all the alts and am really only missing B. Wrecking Ball's Hut from the well. Gold/energy from elemental bonuses are not really an issue at max level either.

Did you get any gems as consolation? I got enough to rebuy the hut (only lost FFF). Great to hear that the sanctum got fixed though!

My sanctum didn't get restored and I don't see the October notice. I'm thinking about rolling back.

No sanctum, no FFF hut and no gems yet.

No, I never reported it. This just happened last night and I was using the glitch to get as much gold as I could to pay for the next island.

hmmm -- looking at my game tonight, I have the Magic Sanctum, but I am missing FFF's hut and MSS' hut. :-\

I guess I will have to wait for those to come around again.

Actually, I believe that I had the sanctuary and upgraded it to the sanctum, but I think it cost me gems... I did not get the freebie that I was 1 day away from completing.

Wait...so was MSS's hut available for purchase? I know it was available when you bought a gem pack, but I never saw it for purchase in the store.

I bought the gem pack for it. Talked with support and they said they will see what they can do otherwise gem compensation.

Just adding myself to the queue for this bug. Like most everyone else, my upgraded Magic Sanctum disappeared from the game after the iOS 8 upgrade and has yet to reappear...
Has anyone tried to launch their existing Activate backup on an iOS 7.x device? Just curious...

Did it reappear even though you were missing your Magic Sanctuary?

When I restored from my backup, I was able to select the backup save game, so everything reverted to the state it was just before the update. The backup was done while I had iOS 7 installed and the restore was done with iOS 8 installed.

I also a missing the magic sanctum since the IOS8 update.

well I am assuming my gift of 2,000 gems was to make up for the 2 lost hut's. It is better than nothing just have to wait for them to come around again.

I restored my iPad to right before I installed IOS 8. I got my sanctum back but I lost some game progress like last month's Alter Ego was back to level 12.
