So there's this theory that I have and I'm wondering if any of you techey people can tell me if it's possible. So what if, to prevent hacking the Light and Dark characters in the game to find out what they are, they arn't actually coded in the game. When you put the new characters in they are saved into the game's data, "installing" themselves onto the game. This would present infinite possibilities for game expansion in the future actually allowing for backwards compatibility, just wondering.

That could work, and might be cool, but it probably won't happen. There are ? villains in the game after all, so they need to be programmed in.

Yeah... I don't think so... I think the character would need to be programmed into the game first so that the figure is compatible with the game in the first place. Would be sneaky of them, though.

I see 4...errr 5 problems with that theory.

1 - If the coding for the character was on the figure, the figure would have to a memory chip in order to hold that much code. The RFID chip is nowhere near enough. Even with how cheap memory is, it's still not cost effective.

2 - I don't think RFID technology is meant to transfer that much data. I'm not sure if it would actually work.

3 - The transfer from figure to console hard drive would surely be rather slow.

4 - It would not be simply adding files to the hard drive, you would surely have to modify some existing files, which would be rather troublesome and more error prone.

5 - The wii doesn't store game code on a hard drive as I understand it. It can only save game files with limited space. It certainly isn't designed to run games from someplace other then the disk. Since the wii is still a big seller, that's a no go.
