i'm getting all figures for both. with the exception of both being "Toys to life" there is really nothing that similar between the two games they are very different, and they both have their positive and negative features, but nothing really out ways the other for me.
how much will i spend? way too much, but the only video games i play are skylanders, DI and pokemon, i made the decision to focus on these three games when the first DI came out, i prefer to get all figures for both games and nothing else video game wise, except for the handheld pokemon titles, which i've been playing since R/B was first on gameboy.

Honestly, I don't think you can compare which is better. Depends on the person really. I'm just getting Trap Team. Figure wise the answer is without a doubt. Skylanders. They are better made and 32%~ cheaper than DI. Honestly I think that Trap Team is still more wallet freindly needing only 8 Trap Masters, 9 Traps, and 2 Adventure a Packs to get the full experience.

I will say this. I remember when The dude who made Infinity kept saying figures from new Infinity games would work in previous games thanks to a title update. However, they seemed to have lied about that. I lol'd when I saw the compatibility chart for 2.0.

I will honestly be getting both for separate reasons. I am the big Skylander buff in this house so Skylanders is mainly for me. I do play with my daughter when she's up to it. Now my wife and kid usually prefer D.I. My daughter loves the Toy Box (playing in it not creating it...she makes me do that) and my wife likes the Play Set Missions and some of the Toy Box. She (my wife) likes D.I. more because she's already invested in the characters. I have yet to get her to play Skylanders.
In regards to the toys themselves, D.I. wins hands down. The sculpt and paint jobs of the D.I. figures is amazing. I usually have to go through several Skylanders at retail to find one with a decent paint job. Now with Marvel Playsets I'm actually excited to check them out along with the themed minigames. They have a Dungeon Crawler and Tower Defense style missions for the Toy Box now that I'm looking forward to. I WISH Skylanders would do something like this. Some kind of sand box style game play would really go a long way and add to the replay value. With Skylands being such a vast limitless space this would/could fit the lore as well. |

Reason why skylanders does not get toy box why? Cause it's not 3d world like D.I Skylanders had different camara angle like those command type games Difference D.I can only use the charters in their own element like marvel Heros can't access Aladdin world see the differences and skylanders kinda more fighting style upgrading characters and hat simulator

Both, but only because I'll need to cover both for FamilyGamerTV. If I were buying them myself, probably just Skylanders because my son is more into it and I like story driven games. I think they've done great things with Disney Infinity this year though and I'm looking forward to playing around with it.

I don't think there is an Aladdin world.
Anyway, I'm getting both, but will likely play and invest a lot less in DI. My kids just aren't as excited about DI, even with the Marvel characters. As for a debate, I love a good healthy debate. A healthy debate is not, 'Skylanders is awesome, DI sucks.' It seems kinda sad that people can't make logical points and respect other's viewpoint enough to have a debate these days (hence the US political atmosphere these days). |

Skylanders. Having a crossover game is cool and all, but I'd rather have them stay as fighting or party games. It's hard to make a plataformer/beat-em-up work with a good story, and with such similar gameplay I'd rather stick to Skylanders' original designs. In points other than overall theme, it's appples and oranges and not really worth comparing.
Well at least the discussion for the time being is civil, so I guess there's no harm in it as long as people stay polite.

I'm getting both. I'm getting DI primarily for the Marvel Super-Heroes. I could care less about the other DI figures, except Donald Duck. I wouldn't be surprised if DI sells to Marvel fans that have no intention of playing the game. They look really good and will display well on a shelf.

Kids have always been more into Skylanders and so have I... but as I have heard people say before on the forums, if Star Wars figures get released then things might take a different turn (though that just means we'll get both).
Edit: Just to throw in another toy - I am going to get some Amiibos because I think they look pretty cool as well [and I am a Zelda/Mario fanboy]. If I like what they do we may get some more.

For now I'm just getting Skylanders. I prefer a more action and story-based game. I tried Disney Infinity and didn't like that you are restricted to only playing with certain characters in the playset levels. I created a level in ToyBox mode and I haven't played it since. I may only get DI 2.0 if I find a good offer on it.
I might get a couple of the Amiibo figures. Link and Samus are my favourite Nintendo characters.

I personally enjoy Skylanders more. But, my kids play the games far more than I do. And they like Infinity much more, lately it's either Infinity, Minecraft or Lego Marvel Super Heroes. Infinity 2.0 is all three of those combined (more or less), so that is a pure win. And judging by what all their friends are talking about Trap Team isn't even on their radar. I'd like it if my sons were hyped up about Skylanders, but they aren't - our funds will be directed to what they want, not what I want for them to want. In my opinion, Trap Team is about to be a big reality check for Activision. When my son comes home from school and can tell me every figure in Wave 1 of Infinity 2.0 (and Swap Force last year), but can't tell me the name of a single Trap Master figure, that's a bad omen - small sample size of course, but I have a feeling other parents are seeing this.
And GM, it isn't the first time a developer has been somewhat "hopeful" for some feature that doesn't turn out. I guess the big complaint with no backwards game compatibility for new figures being that they appear to be following Skylanders lead. You're going to have try again to come with with a better complaint than "behaves the same way as Skylanders for backwards compatibility". That isn't really a shining seal for a franchise, to simply be the "baseline". They did give the first game out for free though, so if you buy 2.0 and get 1.0 figures for 2.0, you can also play them in 1.0 for free using your 2.0 portal. Besides, you can't use new figures in the old game playsets, so why would you want to play them in 1.0 Toy Box? The 2.0 Toy Box is much more fleshed out. Maybe they just meant you can play your new figures in 1.0 Toy Box levels loaded into 2.0 (I think 1.0 levels can still be downloaded to 2.0)? |

My house is split on the infinity vs. skylanders debate. My partner loves infinity more but does not love marvel... so we will get the game but wait until the toy box starter comes out. I am skylanders all the way. I tried to do the toy box stuff on infinity and was bored to tears within a week. I do like the playsets but will not buy a single marvel set because they look boring to me. I like the story driven aspect and also like the originality of the skylanders characters. Final nail for me is that infinity characters break so easily. With 2 kids in the house I have had at least 4 infinity "casualties" and zero skylander "casualties."

I don't like to compare the games themselves very much because they're two different genres, but when I played Infinity it seemed light on content. I only really played the Toy Box mode, and I gotta admit it was pretty fun, despite the lack of enjoyable content otherwise. I would say when it comes to the games, they're kinda hard to compare, but one things for sure: Skylanders wins by a landslide when it comes to innovation. For DI 2.0, their big innovation is just more characters, playsets, and upgrades. I like how Skylanders goes even further and shakes the gameplay up with each game while still keeping the core experience. If Disney doesn't change more of the gameplay up, they're never gonna catch up to Skylanders. The only reason their game is selling is mainly because of the recognizable characters that kids know and love. While this is a cool idea, again, Skylanders wins in my opinion for their originality. Anyways, my point is that while I think this whole thing is like comparing apples to oranges game-wise, Skylanders gets my vote because of their innovation and originality.

Okay, about time i spoke my mind on the matter.
I got SSA since 2011. i was 10. and i was pumped. it was a great game, possibly the best of the released 3. since infinity wasn't around when giants came out, i was there at walmart at 6:00 in the morning, and got my starter pack and other figures (even though i didn't need another portal.) i was 11. and beginning middle school, it came to me my peers would call me bad things for playing these games, so i never told anybody unless somebody brings it up. then infinity came around, and something magical happened- my sister wanted the game. she wanted barbossa. she wanted violet. she wanted to play the game with me. after the first few days of giants, she cared less and less about it. but this was now june of 2013, and i was 12. so we preordered, and then we went on to buy all the figures out on day one. i drove up to walmart to buy woody. i went to stores miles and miles away to buy figures that were timed exclusives. it felt good knowing my money was being spent on a game that can be played, well, endlessly. the toybox is a awesome place, and i still haven't beaten 1/2 of the playsets. content is important. then swap force happened, and i blew through it pretty quickly. see? infinity i still play to this day, and swap force died down in july. now with trap team dropping pvp, and making the characters childish and goofy instead of cool and strong, i'm leaning more towards 2.0 now. my sister wants to buy groot. she wants gamora and star lord. she wants drax. and for the first time in forever we can come together and play a game that we both like! when i played SSA, i got a good feeling. it made me fell like childhood would never fade away. but i was 10. giants gave me a better feeling. i was 11. swap force was a big meh. i liked jumping, but my sister was steered away by the graphics. when i played infinity, it felt like a better experience. i got to do much more than there is to do in skylanders. after a year and 1 month of playing, 1.0 is still fun. and now i'm 13, and maybe it's time to grow up. final verdict: infinity wins, hands down. it's better. it fits all ages. it lasts longer. the characters relate to everyone and are cool and powerful, and FAN REQUESTED! everyone has their own opinions, but trap team is my last game. even my parents think skylanders is getting worse. i'm done now. |

Wait, so Infinity is better because peer pressure said so? ZapNorris, DI 2.0 could be game of the year, but that's NOT a reason for it to be any good. The game is what is fun, good and teaches you something useful; not what you feel like you can 'grow up' with. People grow up on age because they have to, but if they grow up in 'maturity'(which is actually 'I need to fit in',real maturity is learning to deal with life) that's because you're letting others decide what you like.

I personally prefer infinity. It might be based a lot off the fact that skylanders is just too childish for my tastes at times. It usually babies you along and is way too easy. Even in this new "kaos mode" so far it seems like the only way to loose is run out of characters, not that kaos mode even seems difficult to begin with. It's been 4 installments and they still have nothing more than coins, upgrades, legendary treasures, and hats... "costumes" are probably going to be underwhelming. So what even is there. They are getting rid of great aspects, first heroics, now pvp, just for room for more money grabbing. Also each level is literally the same. You follow a set course, bashing enemies, moving blocks/turtles, moving crystals, playing skystones. EVERY. TIME.
In DI the playsets find a different spin on things. Like in DI1, monsters played pranks on the fear tech, while incredibles saved the city. Of course, skylanders does win in UNIQUE characters, and compatibility with every level; but seriously, that's because every level is the same. Although, I don't really believe comparing is fair. These are different games. While skylanders is heavy platforming and puzzle, DI is open world and building. I guess I just prefer infinity's game style better. I am still getting both games, as they have their positive attributes, but I'm more of a DI fan. Also within this "argument" I honestly am disregarding all people who say "DI SUCKS." or "Skylanders of course duhh." Stuff along those lines. It would be nice if you'd give a basis on your opinion. I am aware this site has a lot of younger kids though, so I'm not expecting award winning novel quality posts, just /something/. People who keep saying DI is not innovating just don't know enough about it. There are a lot of new, great, fun, and helpful aspects to the game. And just a heads up, using "villians" as the indicator of innovation for stt is partially incorrect. That's their gimmick. One of their innovations would be jump attacks (which is nice) and the addition of tower defense. [Please do not see this as an attack on skylanders fans, I am one too. It is just an opinion. (:] |

Won't care at all, about what my university classmates will say, just like how I don't care about what my friends say, regarding Skylanders. Just play what makes you happy. ZapNorris made his decision, and I hope he didn't let anyone decide for him. Mine is different. That's all.

Again, even if DI was the better one, it's not because it's the cool thing people do, it's because it's a good game. I know I thought that of some franchises when I was a teenager and nowadays I deeply regret not following them while it was still great and lively, don't want anyone else to go through that specially a series that pretty much requires you to follow it at least in the same time window of a year or two to actually understand it.

Quite so. Someone should start a Grown Man-Boy Society... or something with a more gender neutral name. On the topic at hand; it's not really worth comparing them for game value, they're both different. I might prefer Skylanders, but that's because I enjoy the battle mechanics and unique characters. Even though it is seriously losing me with dropping PVP(I already suffered enough when they dropped Heroic Challenges). But I will still get Trap Team over DI. For now. |

Skylanders, why? It has a story and the characters don't look like they came out of a ps1 graphic card model. Skylanders just looks a lot better to me. And you can re use your skylanders instead of buying new ones of the skylanders you have.
I don't like Infinity, mainly because the figures are rather bad to look at to me. Especially on the human like characters. Oh and the sandbox genre of the game. That just immediately renders itself to a actual cash cow corner of pointlessness. But I'll just get 1 figure and it will be Rocket. I honestly think the figures are a little over priced. 12 dollars when compared to Skylanders 10 dollars, that's a pointer there.

You can preorder it from a lot of major retailers already for a 11/4 release date. http://www.walmart.com/ip/3906...8875912&veh=sem Given there is a Toybox Starter pack, Avengers is set to get its own separate playset, if you ended up getting the other Starter pack first. I'll see if I can track down one of the articles. I'm currently at work, so I cant look through my old links if I was at home. |
