The 3DS Version is looking to be a ripoff

The 3DS version will:
Probably not support traps, the main feature of the game. We just get what looks like a Giants/SA Portal.
A figure thats going to be available on Day 1
A figure thats already technically out and will soon be released worldwide.
NO EXCLUSIVE.
Most of us probably already have a Giants/SSA Portal anyway.
I thought the reason we didn't get 3 figures this time round is because we got 2 traps... but the 3DS has two figures and NO traps. One of the figures being a mini which will be sold for much less than regular figures in the store, and they want is to pay the same orice as a console starter ofr this?!

One small correction. The 3DS version will be $10 less then the console versions. I do agree that this time around it's extremely lack luster. I also don't see how this portal can/will support traps. At this point I'd say it's not, which begs the question, how is this a Trap Masters game?

It will likely be the case of capturing villains in game and only captured with the trap masters.

It smells like they're sabotaging this game to provide reason to cease making 3DS titles after this year...

Why are they even making a 3ds version if they are going to do it this way? and why barkley? some people already have him smilie activision isnt the smartest with these things (they should add Spry or something and another normal sized Skylander and a Portal that looks unique

I agree. There's a reason why they aren't talking about it. They don't care. I pretty much expect them to drop 3DS so they can just push the tablet version. Remember what I said about people going to other devices/form factors for their gaming experience? I think it's going to happen here.

I do remember what you said and, to be fair, this is them thrusting a catalyst into that to expedite the migration.

The problem here is that the tablet version isn't an alternative to the 3DS version - it's an alternative to the console version.

unless they simply don't want to make a 3DS version. Nothing like poor sales to say, "welp, that's not happening anymore"

I seriously doubt any considerable percentage of the fanbase is going to purchase the exact same game on a tablet as they do on the console - even more so when it comes to a $75 title.

One thing that affects the 3DS title's sales is that some folks don't realize it is a different game altogether. Meanwhile, the tablet version is the *exact* same game.

If they *did* want to sell the 3DS title, it probably would have helped to give it a different name... but meh.

I agree 100% and I've thought that since SSA. They should give it a name that is unique, at least slightly. Even if they want to make it clear it ties into the main console generation titles Giants, Swap Force, etc. Marketing can whip that stuff up in no time - call the 3DS branch Swap Force Explosion or Giants Unleashed, for example.

I don't think they really believe lots of people will buy the console and tablet packs, especially when you consider the included figures are idential. However, they may want an excuse to only make one game each cycle instead of two, 3DS and the rest.

Dunno where's the smart plan part in that. Smash Bros. 3DS just released, if you want to make big money you should be following the wave of people buying handhelds for that game and not the tablet just for a controller that works with one game.

I agree. The whole 3DS thing reeks of "let it rot and then dump it" right now.

The points raised pretty much tell the story, I expect sales were low compared to consoles and it had a high development cost with low reward. Why bother?

I expect to see no 3DS version on skylanders 5.

I honestly feel quite sorry for Nintendo. I really don't want a XBone or PsPoor etc so they better keep supporting the WiiU !

Well the WiiU is getting nice extra things even if it's just aesthesics. While it should be used on the 3DS as well the gamepad menu looked kinda cute.
But c'mon guys, tablets aren't the same as a handheld. It's not meant only for games, while the 3DS and co. are.

Skylanders could be done right on the 3DS if they were willing to dedicate the resources to it. The platform is certainly powerful enough to handle it (look at other far more complex games), but they just want to keep milking the engine. Maybe they did do some rework this time, but I'm sure they would be pointing it out if that were true. The main problem is they have to make it as a one off, because it can't handle the console version and they cannot leverage the development costs against multiple platforms. Maybe they could if they made a Vita version, but I doubt those sales would even show up on the radar (such a shame the Vita isn't doing well, I love mine and would love a Skylanders on it). It would have been awesome if they put some love/money into it (not to knock the devs) and came up with something like Metroid did when Prime came out. That had an excellent, fully stand on its own portable game that fully deserved to be picked up alongside the console game.

It's 3DS versions are not bad games, they just really needs more development resources. The fact they didn't even try to implement the Traps and just went with the same portal in it just means it is falling further and further behind.

Though who knows, maybe Amiibo is driving them away from it. Can't see why, they can compete with it by making the game for New 3DS to support even more toy features than the console.
.....Aaand people would call it a second paywall and still stay away from this version. Okay, maybe not a good idea after all.
