Youtuber Jojopetv has found information from a Gamestop store that you can preorder Skylanders Trap Team for PC. It's not the Gamestop website or Activision's website.
This is kind of surprising since Spyro's Adventure was the last PC Skylanders game(and we know it was because of the hacking/spoiling adventures back then).
What do you guys think?

I doubt it was because of hacking; other versions of Giants were quickly hacked, I think it was because of poor sales.

If I'm not mistaken it was the Wii version being "ported" to play on the PC. I played it for about 2 minutes and found it untenable.

Actually the PC version is a port of the Xbox version (it has the same previews and stuff)

Makes sense ... Microsoft = Windows = PC = Xbox...
We were actually talking about the "cracked" Giants version....which was basically an image file of the Wii version.

But what if you patch your OS and the game stops working or becomes crippled? Wouldn't the "no patch policy" of Activision be a concern for you?

Patching your OS and having a game not work is just as likely as patching your console and having a game not work on it; pretty unlikely. |

Unless you have a PS3, then all bets are off. "Patches" or firmware updates on that are why I boycott ALL Sony products and will never buy another Sony anything again. I will try Giants and Swap Force on the Wii emu now though you come to mention it |

It was to point out that patching your console and having games not work is QUITE likely if you have a Sony product.
Anyway, neither here nor there for the discussion. |

I've never had the problem personally...but let's face it. The complexities of consoles are making them BEHAVE like PCs. It's not Sony's fault---it's the demands of the customers and the industry that is forcing us down a path where "the hardware" is constantly updated "by the software"---to that end the reason why Trap Team needs to be agile enough to handle these demands and complexities....I was merely pointing out that the PC culture is always in this quagmire.

That is amazing news. I NEVER get t.v. time but I log a lot of gaming hours on my p.c. Now I will have a chance to enjoy Trap Team on my P.C.

To be honest, I prefer the video game console type more than either PC or Tablet versions.

This almost certainly means that villains will be hacked. You already have a "reading" device connected to your PC via USB.

in reality.......if this is a go.....all you would need would be 1 single physical trap to capture and trap any villain regardless of element. Quite the savings....LOL.

The likelihood of the PC version leading to hacked traps is less than having a hacked wii version with memory address hacking (like what has been done with every version of skylanders) any and all hacks and pre-release figure information has come from the wii versions. Thats how we knew about the sidekicks/pets from spyros adventure and all magic items. Security wise, wii is the weakest system not the PC.

I wouldn't say Wii was the weakest system, it has just been totally and absolutely exploited now.
I Would love a proper PC version so I could use my 3D monitor to play (I still play SSA in 3D, it's cool). Mind you if they supported 3D on consoles (easy to do with a split L/R display) I wouldn't need the PC to do that. Quite a lot of people have 3D TVs now but it seems console makers and game developers have completely abandon the 'fad' which is quite frustrating as I see gaming as the best use for 3D on a TV. I don't think there is likely to be an official PC version myself, I just don't think the target market of kids PLAY on a PC. Yes there is a huge PC gaming community but I don't think that they are the sort of people to buy Skylanders. It all comes down to sales and I think sales on a PC version would be too small for them to bother. That said, if they can do an "easy" port of an xbox version for little cost maybe it's worth it. |

Everyone does realise that these kinds of things will just be coded in either C++ or Item code, the latter being impossible to understand unless you are actually a Pc, no? Activision are going to make sure nobody finds a way around it - if they didn't make sure that a 'hack' was possible, then getting new characters could be a matter of going online. I mean why spend $10, $15, maybe even $20 a pop when you could simply download a 'cracked' version of the game and utilise everything the game has to offer for free? If there are no attempts to encrypt the code then I'll eat my hat.

Every ones talking about how they think it's going to be hacked but I don't think it will be at all. Want to know why? I don't think this is real. I'm not expert on the Skylanders community and I really don't know how well known this guy is, but why are we believing him. He has provided us with no evidence. Oh and guess what I bet the PC version comes with Wicked Thumpback, and a Skylander from the Eon Element. So exciting!

Bolded items---my thoughts exactly. The ability for them to port to tablet is probably the same tech being used to port to PC...this isn't a move about sales necessarily--other than the barrier of entry for them is low now because of the tech and allows them to match their competitors. "Loss Leader" comes to mind.

I think part of the issue here is that retailers are reluctant to devote the shelf space to the PC version... or even PC software in general. It is made worse by the oversized box needed for Skylanders.
Sure, it could be an online only thing, but at that point the audience is so limited, it just is not worth it. I assume one could use the Wii version with the Dolphin emulator though... |

Good point actually. Most PC software has moved successfully into the online model; I personally only use Steam for my PC purchases.

On a side note... Discussion here of Emulating the 360 Skylanders on the PC sent me off to download the emulator to try.
DON'T DO IT. IT IS FAKE. There is no xbox 360 Emulator for the PC at the moment, you will end up with virus/trojan/mallware on your PC like I just did. Luckily I have good AV on the machine that caught it as it tried to install but if I hadn't it would be another story. Dolphin is a safe Emulator (download from official site only) but there is no PS3/XB360 emulation yet so don't believe ANY of the scams you see online saying there are. |

Good advice. I use multiple AV/malware software packages and a sandbox virtual machine when I install or visit questionable software/sites.

dolphin doesnt have proper USB support for the portal. there is a way to compile a patch into the source, but its not in the normal builds and probably will never be.

I forgot what I did, but I did in fact get SSA working on an emu with the portal. It was dddooooogggg slow and I have a decent mid range video card.
