I had pre-ordered the 3DS version of Trap Team a while ago, around the same time that we first learned about the Dark Edition packs. I wanted to make sure I got one since the 3DS version has typically had different characters in the past. (Dark Spyro, Punch Pop Fizz, Volcanic Eruptor)
I know we've seen a preview of the 3DS Starter containing Gusto, Barkley and oddly, a Giants style Portal, but that was first shown months ago, and since then, we haven't really heard much. On the websites for all of the major retailers, their picture just shows the cover art, with no mention of the included figures, unlike the versions for other systems.
Anyway, my question is: Do you still think that the 3DS starter pack is the same as the preview picture that was shown months ago, or is it possible that it's changed?
And on a related note, what do you think the odds are of Gusto just getting a single pack release? We've seen some evidence that points towards this.
I've always gotten a 3DS starter mostly because of the exclusive figures, but if there are none, this time around, I may cancel that pre-order.
What is everyone else's thoughts on this?

The 3DS version has not been discussed at all other than that photo of Gusto with Barkley and the Giants/SSA portal that showed up months ago.
Gusto will be released in Wave 1 of Trap Team as a single pack figure. Barkley with a red base will be released as a two pack with Whisper Elf, doesn't look like Wave 1 though. No news on any 3DS exclusive character or the 3DS Starter Pack having a portal that uses traps. No news on gameplay either, such as will you be able to capture villains or play as villains. My guess is either the traps will be used directly on the portal with no sound, or traps aren't used at all. Perhaps the Trap Masters are required to either trap villains or unlock areas where villains are hidden, or maybe villains are rewards for completing levels under certain conditions like hats.

I think you're safe canceling the preorder. The 3DS packs are easy to find.

The value the 3DS version delivers is kind of a joke this year. 70€ for an old portal, mini and 1 trap master. I usually completed the 3DS versions in about 5 or 6 hours, including 3 stars in every level. I would recommend waiting for black friday, at least for the US.
Don't get me wrong, I like the 3DS version, it's like a small bonus game every year, and I enjoyed Swap Force even more than Giants. But the production costs for a 3DS game are only a fraction of the costs the console games create. And, you don't really know what you are buying, because they are not showing the game untill close to release. As far as I know, the starter pack image is, at least in terms of the contents, final.

Yeah, it would definitely help me save a few bucks on release day. I really enjoyed SSA's 3DS game, but I never could get into Giant's and I barely played past the first level of Swap Force. I was holding on to the pre-order in hopes that we would get another exclusive variant like we have in the past, but the chances of that are looking slim. And like others have said, the 3DS versions are always easy to find after release.

That will be somewhat annoying , The 3DS starter has sidekick Barkley but i will want a Whisper elf which in theory will be in a life mini pack with Barkley or a buddy pack with Stealth Elf of which i have two already . Its so hard keep spares to a minimum.

I am kinda disappointed in the 3DS starter pack this time around. I am still hoping that they will change it up but not hopeful. I am thinking I am going to change to the tablet version instead.

Well, I'm still curious about how the 'trap' mechinic will work, if you can even trap villans in it.
Though we now know that Barkley will be a fully playable character so that and Gusto will make some nice exculsives. Granted I still wonder if old sidekicks will still function the old way or if they'll be played as the new ones?

I don't get why they are NOT making a Vita version... That system is capable of wonders, yet nobody cares too much, about it... Well, at least I can play Trap Team in streaming on it.

Vita sales are poor and the handheld is dead as a console. Sony now calls it a peripheral for the PS4. Sure, the vita is capable of much more than the 3DS, but this also increases the development costs. I guess the Infinity vita version is part of the deal with sony.

Skylanders-games are aimed towards children.
Most Vita owners don't fit in the target audience for these games. Tons of 3DS owners do. That's all there is to it, really. The truly mind-boggling thing is that DI 2.0 is getting a Vita version. That's just insane and a really stupid business decision, but I guess they just want to waste money... |

What a load. Where has Sony said it was a now just a PS4 peripheral? By your logic there shouldn't be a Wii U version because it sales are poor. Development cost wouldn't be that high as the Vita can run ports or PS3/PS4 games or they could even just port the 3DS version (like the lego games).

It's true, the Vita sales are poor, but only because people nowadays only cares about AAA titles. The Vita has plenty of games, from Tearaway to LBP, counting a lot of other titles too, like Escape Plan, Little Deviants, Gravity Rush and a lot of well made portings and HD remakes. If DI 2.0 is getting a Vita version, then I really cannot see why Trap Team can't.

I can understand the desire for a portable version, that's why I've always gotten the 3DS version in the past, but if you're just getting it for Gusto, he'll be out in Wave 1 as a single pack as well (based on what we've seen from Gamescom.) Just getting him by himself will be cheaper than the 3DS starter. And seriously, is your shift key stuck or something? lol.

I actually agree with target audience for hte Vita. It's designed for a slightly older audience, meh...geared. Younger kids can play it don't get me wrong, there is no alienation going on, but there are more 'mature' titles on the Vita, then on the 3DS.
I think that while Skylander games would be great on Vita, I think it would be a poor sale. On the flip I think DI can be a good sale on the Vita. And as a consumer, I couldn't be happier, between Tablet 'Landers and Vitafinity 2.0, I feel like I can truly setup my consoles and never plan to move them again, since if I go on vacay, I'll leave the XBoxes where they lay. Vita + 3DS + iPad + PSP (emulation shhhh) + Bookbag with maybe 20 or so various figures in it? Makes me want to plan vacay for next summer! - Unreall |

I think for the very first time I'm holding off on the 3DS version, going to stick with the Dark PS4 version only until Black Friday sales (or hold out even longer). I've bought the last three 3DS games on release day, along side the console version. I just can't see myself essentially spending $50 on the game, here's the logic. In Canada the game is $74.99 for 3DS, the Gusto is $16 and mini is $7 as half a two-pack. IF they reveal the contents of the 3DS to be a variant, then it will change my mind.

It's easy to hold off on 3DS...they've practically for all intents and purposes have ignored it from any marketing for the last 4 gaming shows. It essentially DOES NOT EXIST.

Not to mention that people keep forgetting that the 3DS version is not just a 'port' of the game. It's it's own game in it's own right. Just has the same name.
I mean sure, since Giants (and swapforce) gameplay has been getting more and more like the console versions. But the storyline, levels, and things make it a standalone game, or even a sidequest. Lots of people, it seems to me anyways, tend to keep on forgetting that. Which that right there is the main reason why I keep on getting the 3DS version. If it ever became a watered-down version of the console versions... honestly it'd go way down on the list of games to get.
