Exactly. With Gusto releasing as a Wave 1 single pack, and most people already having Barkley, what is the incentive to purchase the 3DS starter pack? At least the three past games had exclusive 3DS-only Skylanders to collect.

And if traps don't work on the 3DS version, is there some sort of in-game mechanic to capture/play as villains or is that not available at all? They could just make villains available for capture as long as you have a Trap Master of the corresponding element or something similar and thus are able to skip the traps altogether.

My .02: They are abandoning the 3DS after this release in favor of the tablet version...pending how sales do.

There's always a chance that this time it'll actually be a port of the console version, just like the tablet version. They usually release at least the 3DSs version's story, maybe a short trailer about it, and this time we don't have even that.
