So, because I kinda forgot about it for awhile, my old topic closed. And that's terrible. I held a funeral for it.

So, to begin this new topic, let's take a moment to appreciate this!

Metroid Prime - Phazon Mines Ambience

Begin!

^lol that was quick

And I know I posted this in the old topic, but as that one will be swallowed by the sea of time eventually, I figure I may as well repost this one, since I've got more to say.

Phantasy Star Online - The Nearest Place to Heaven Part 1

I always found this track creepy, especially in the area where it plays (you exit some bizarre ruins and you find yourself in...a peaceful meadow with a monolith?), but now that I've listened to it further and turned the volume up (thanks to someone in the comments of the video)...it kinda got worse.

Take, for example, the birds chirping. Listen closely to that. That was something I've known about for awhile, but I still consider it worth noting.

After some careful listening, I do believe I can hear the gunfire talked about in that comment, and maybe the siren, but I haven't heard any screaming.

Ultimately, I'd say this track is very effective at saying 'Hey, things are about to get a whole lot worse'.

At least the monolith is pretty, right? Let's go see if we can-SDKJFHDFGDKGFBKDG!

^For a Skylanders game, that was unexpected.

Fire Emblem: Awakening - Id (Darkness)

another repost (probably)

It's just that I started playing FE:A again and felt this track needed some more appreciation.

4 AM - Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Not really the scariest, but it seems pretty out of place for such a colorful, happy game. Sorry, you'll have to look it up on YouTube or something because for some reason I'm having a really hard time getting links to work on dS right now.

Super Mario 64 - Big Boo's Haunt

I haven't played this game since I was a little girl, but I remember this level really scaring me (I was like, four or five I think, and the piano itself was the reason I was so scared). So I post this due to such fond memories.

Here are a few and my thoughts on them...

1. Dementors! - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Keep in mind that this is coming from a movie game, imagine going through a random bargain bin Harry Potter GBA game and finding this.

2. The Old Chateau - Pokemon Diamond and Pearl

The entirety of The Old Chateau is creepy, the ghost roaming the halls, the TV playing static at certain times, and the music is no exception.

Submerged Castle - Pikmin 2

The Pikmin series is one that switches from cheerful happiness to fear and dread in seconds, the enemies, areas, and music are always a mix of both. The Submerged Castle is a great example, it is a dungeon located in a somewhat relaxing part of the game, The Perplexing Pool, it features tons of treasure alongside an insta-kill invincible beast that only wants to follow you and crush you into oblivion. The worst part is that when and where he appears is completely random, you never know if he's going to appear 5 minutes from now or five seconds from now, and that's what makes this place so dread inducing, and the music definitely fits the bill.

Phantasy Star Online Episode II -Abysmal Ball -Intermission-

This one kinda needs to be heard in-game to really be appreciated, but..

It's nice to enter a damaged lab...under the sea...that's crawling with monsters... Oh, and the messages you can find imply 'something' is on the loose... Then there's the messages you get from the man you were sent to find...

Phantasy Star Online Episode II - Abysmal Ball -Intermission- (PREMIUM EDITION)

Official 'remix' of the track that was on a CD release, I think. Posting it here for the sake of comparison, I guess.

Really, though, Phantasy Star Online's OST tends to be good at creating an atmosphere of loneliness, which is interesting as it's an online, four-player game... Well, unless you go solo.

I don't know if I say it's disturbing, but it definitely brings a sense of urgency and anxiousness. I'm talking about the Bee theme from Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

In a game normally met with soft guitar and piano jingles throughout the day, this high paced, choppy, creepy bit-tune style song catches you off guard and tells you one thing without saying a word; RUN.

From Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Keyblade Graveyard
Fitting music for the graveyard of a war that bleepin' split the universe into thousands of smaller universes.

From Kingdom Hearts DDD Broken Reality
It descends into a childish madness. How fitting.

From Bravely Default Strained Time

Also, I know it's not official, but this remix of the classic Zelda dungeon theme is just... have fun sleeping tonight... Nullification (Underground Theme Remix by PrototypeRaptor)

Oh, but my all time favorite disturbing piece of music is this, just this

The translation for the title is debated, but something like Garden of Distorted Thoughts
The best part? Before hearing it you'll first hear this super cheerful piece, the basic menu music, then you'll hear a roar and a childlike moaning and then you see what you're facing... a beast so horrifying it is memeticly believed to be created out of shipping itself

Scurge: Hive - The Source (final)

I'll let the theme do the talking, but (spoilers for the fight itself)...

This battle takes place inside the protagonist's mind. Haven't reached the boss yet, but yeah. The theme fits that, I think. Fighting what is basically a parasite inside your own mind.

I don't know if Portal counts as a horror game technically or not (it sure shows up in my nightmares enough to count for me). But in case it doesn't, this song has freaked me out since 2007.

Here's a couple from Zelda: Ocarina of Time that still make my hair stand on end almost twenty years after I played the game!

Hypno K.K. from Animal Crossing New Leaf, while not as suspenseful as K.K. Dirge, is a lot creepier to compensate. The backwards tones and strange melody are made creepier by the fact that when played backwards it sounds like a normal K.K. song!
