Holy crap, I have never seen a moderation team with such low understanding on how to moderate a forum. There are many topics that deserve to be closed while there are many topics ending with Beavcoon or Troll Slug constantly being closed. I didn't really see WHY they should be closed, especially in S&N. There are many more that are similar to those topics. The rest of the moderation team (primarily talking about S&N here) don't do their jobs. The posts that people get away here are absolutely ridiculous, and at any other message board the user would be warned, suspended, or banned.

Anyways, Waka stepped down, right? That's understandable. She is still a moderater though, and dark should probably take the time to demote her if that is her wish. The only time, the ONLY time I have seen JCW do anything in his power is threaten to close a topic about windumup's girlfriend. HIR is alright...but...
Hell, I don't know if it was HIR or some other hunter, but only a month ago they realized they could edit/move their post. Holy hell, thats late.

I'm not ripping on their personalities or trying to create a flame war, but I have never seen a moderation team this lacking. This place is a dump because of it. I'm legitimately surprised I wasn't banned a long time ago too, considering all I would post is random bullcrap. I literally only have two moderated messages.

This topic is not meant to hurt the feelings of the staff, but hopefully to improve their ability.

Just my two cents. Feel free to disagree with me, but please have a reason why.

I remember during the whole Ripto Clan thing, when I tried to claim a topic, I got a moderated message. That's totally fine, I should have, it was spam. The only problem was that practically everyone else who tried to claim a topic did not receive a moderated message. I don't know the whole story here, though. I'm not sure who removed my post or if anyone else got a moderated message, but it kinda bothers me.

I don't like the mods, but I feel like I should just say that not only has JCW done more than what you claim, but I think JCW carries most of the weight of moderating S&N, and therefore appears as the best mod on the team to me.

That being said most of the team is lacking and from day one it felt like Dark threw darts at the wall with our pictures on it to see who gets in.

Yup, and its total crap. The mods need to step their game up. This site has some piss poor moderators.

If the "homophobe" you're referring to is who I'm thinking of, then the "homophobe" was kinda acting up themselves, from what I remember.

Also, people need to know a homophobe is not one who opposes same sex marriage, a homophobe is one who actually dislikes people solely for being homosexual.

But yeah, some mods are simply poor at looking at things objectively.

I agree with CAV about Dark throwing darts to pick the moderators.

Also, Dark still hasn't demoted ItsJustMe, and they've been gone for about a year now, so don't expect him to demote Waka anytime soon.

I don't think I've ever seen SpyroD do anything whatsoever.

Gill is too young & childlike, IMO.

Matteo is probably the worst, I think he abuses his power sometimes.

JCW & HIR are the best, they actually do their jobs right without being asses.

Mods are people, too.

To be honest, I don't really care about the whole mod thing anyway. With them, if the job is done well and by y'all's standards it's not, the site will run smoothly overall, so no worries there. Without them, the site goes back to the way it was before we had them. I mean, we've only had mods for what, about three years now? Something like that... the point is, we haven't had them for a very long time. However, I still stand by what I said before about how new mods need to be chosen every so often.
Anyway, according to what you guys are saying, with or without them, the site is crap, so it makes no difference to me whether we have them or not.

Oddly enough, one part of the reasoning for getting banned was having an alt account.

dark52 reminded me before that alts are okay (way long ago...), if they only use that account. Sadly I don't have the PM anymore.

You registered in 2012, didn't you? My first acccount here was registered here in April of 2007. And no, that's where you're wrong. You chose to pick a bone with me because I responded to your gif with a legitimate complaint, and you responded with a rude response. I don't have a bone to pick with you, but you're contradicting yourself.

edit: As for the topic, I've said enough I can. The mods here are crap at their job. Unless I can find the post where HIR discovered he actually had a mod ability or similar, I don't have much more to say.

Once again, post history. I think I gave you a good enough reason.

Contradicting may have not been the right word of choice, my apologies. Although, you're making the situation far worse than it should be.

One of the reasons I think this forum is such a dump now is because people with attitudes or tone in their posts like yours (not trying to start a war, using your posts for an example) get away with it. The mods don't care, as long as they are their friend.

Edit: No need to read my argument with the other user here anymore, we're cool.

Back on topic: Maybe I should have posted this in site suggestions? dark may have read it if I posted it there...but I'm a click away of making a topic directed to him, about him. It's complete crap that he doesn't do anything to moderate the site, besides post updates. If he's busy working a full time job, then I understand. Although, he should consider getting a staff that would actually do their job.

I'm kind of uncomfortable with the idea of talking about mods like this out in the open, and grouping them altogether, while simultaneously pointing fingers at a select few.

If people have problems/criticisms regarding certain mods, you're best off going to them directly as individuals, and giving them criticism, even if you do this in public in reaction to something they do, by quoting their post in the topic in question. I did this on another forum when I had a problem with a mod who not only was displaying double standards on what he considers a spam topic, but I also called out how he had a genuinely vile attitude at times and may have been egotistical too, and just made the place hard to enjoy and filled the top topics with negativity and bad language for the sake of it, which could potentially turn people off from joining the site. He's improved since, though, and I actually have some friendly conversations on the boards with him, on occasion. He still sometimes lets his attitude get the better of him and will make brash statements, but it's a lot better than what he used to be like. I guess he's just naturally a bit outspoken and cocky.

Likewise, if you think a moderator is doing their job particularly well, throw them a bone and give them credit. This is again, something I have done elsewhere, and it tends to mean a lot, as being a moderator can really, really stress people out and getting told you're bad at you're job without being given very specific and valid reasoning can bring a mod down.

Though I wasn't here when the applications were done and promotions were made, I have noticed that some seem to be odd choices and have noticed some that I feel would've been better suited for the job. (No offense to the current staff) Not all of them suck as the topic title implies, and definitely not all in S&N.

-JCW can sometimes let his emotions get to him and make rash decisions, though he is still an active part of the moderation team and will act when need be.
-HIR sometimes seems to be a little to hesitant to act at times though will still keep order and give friendly warnings when needed. Though he has a been a bit less active as of late due to irl responsibilities, he and JCW are still on the better end of the spectrum and rather good moderators.
-Bionicle also seems like a rather good mod. Though I don't see him often outside of the Skylander sections, considering he was the most active in there until Matteo was added to those sections and how despite how chaotic it can be over there, some sense of order still seemed to be established which I congratulate him for running things practically on his own for this time.
-Speaking of Matteo, he seems like a good guy, but makes some mistakes when moderating. Mistakes that he will repeatedly make. I see some sense of potential in him to be a good moderator, specifically over the Skylander sections as this seems to be his main interest on the site and rather where he belongs, though he needs to learn from his mistakes and try to handle things more from a third-party viewpoint thinking of the community as opposed to letting his personal feelings get in the way.
-While I haven't seen Wild do a whole lot as a moderator, Wild still seems like a good person and I feel is rather good at the position. While I believe having mentioned before about not knowing a lot about role-playing I know Wild still tries to do good and keep a sense of order there by making guidelines for role-playing. A good one in my book.
-As for SpyroD, I thought he was some myth that left long before my time until I saw him post an RP once. Honestly, just seems kinda... there, though barely at that. His inactivity is understandable considering I've heard he's in the military, but still, he seems so inactive that the position should rather be passed on to someone who could actually do the job.

Haven't seen much of GilGrunt to form too much of an opinion of him, probably not a good thing. With ItsJustMe gone and Waka leaving, I won't go into detail about them. If anyone else isn't listed, that probably isn't a good sign as I don't know of them.

It's been mentioned above in this topic that there was been some favortism in regards to how moderation is handled. Something I will agree to seeing, especially in S&N. A lot of **** posts and spam will simply fly by while certain users seem to have to be a bit more careful as to what they post as the moderators are more easy to jump on them. Of course I understand some people may stand out more than others, but in the end some people should have a lot more MMs than I'm betting they do while I have a feeling some get a new MM every day over the simplest of things that probably shouldn't even be getting MM'd.

As for the aforementioned better choices, I somewhat feel Samius, wSpyro, CAV, and maybe Baro & Sess would do rather well at the job.

I mean I respect military choices and what not on Spyro D's end, but should have quit the mod-job. Because you can be selected for missions and other military stuff, that would take up internet time.

Remember when people were pissed off about Aura not being a mod? Tbh I think a mod needs to be an all around listener and go trough most topics matter how long it is. (Bar topic) I also want a mod who will moderate their section and not others. Mods also need to be honest because you need to really teach users lessons and not tell them the while truth while being clear at the same time. But most importantly I need a mod who is neutral because being biased to users can get you to be taken advantage of.

But what do I know? I'm an idiot after all.

Also going to throw out there the occasional hypocrisy of some of the mods when handling problems. Along with potential bias like some people here have mentioned, there's also been a time or two where I see a mod talk about somebody handling a problem or resolving a conflict, but then refusing to do so themselves at another time.

And yes JCW takes jokes too seriously sometimes but he's still among the best.

Believe me when I say that this site is a lot better than some others, including those who have better mod teams.

I think Gillgrunt was 11-12 when he was picked, and he was just barely a Green sparx. No offense to him (he seems like a decent guy and I haven't seen him do anything bad as a mod) but there is absolutely no way in hell you should be chosen as a mod when you're that young both figuratively and literally.

I know I made a joke earlier about him throwing darts at the wall, but it really does often look and feel like Dark saw the 100+ applications given to him, and chose at random. Partly to get the process over with (it was clear he didn't want to hire mods but was forced to) and partly to be unpredictable and throw everybody for a loop when all of the popular choices weren't picked (save for maybe two).
