Okay I know serious topics belong somewhere else, but I seriously need some help asap... And this is the most popular forum section... My computer's doing something extremely weird, it's eating up OUTRAGEOUS amounts of my WiFi data. As soon as I connect to my WiFi, a background program called svchost.exe (which I know deals with automatic updating stuff like Windows Update) pops up and starts eating up my internet so much that my data usage has spiked to like 50 GB in one minute.. O.o It's rendered my internet useless...
Please help me... Anyone who knows about this kind of stuff.... smilie
Currently I am running my computer in Safe Mode, which stops things like automatic updates from popping up, and I can use my WiFi just fine...
Please someone help... I have important things like checking my college website that I need to do...

Try killing the process. How many svchost processes do you have?

According to my Google searches, it's possible that the svchost.exe you're talking about is a virus disguised as a normal helpful program.

Try and run an antivirus scan through your computer. Also locate this file properly. If it's in any folder other than System32, it's a virus.

...kill the process?

I dunno. Sounds suspicious. And viruses can do anything these days. That .exe is in the system32 folder, right?

I'm running a full scan in Windows Defender right now.
I tried locating the folder it is in, and it's in the System32 folder, so I didn't touch it.
I haven't done anything except uninstall McAfee antivirus, which had expired because it was a trial version that came with my laptop... And that's when the trouble started... Is it possible that since McAfee was uninstalled, my computer is running constant updates? Idk.. I'm so frustrated... ):

You sure there aren't any other files with the name aside from the one in System32?

Try Avast. It's free and it's not a trial.

I'd check, but I'm scared to connect to WiFi out of Safe Mode... It makes my disk space and CPU usage skyrocket, plus hogging all of that bandwidth...
I might try refreshing my Windows OS. I have a flashdrive, so I can move all of my files there just in case it deletes anything. Or maybe even restoring the computer to factory defaults when I first got it. This laptop's only 2 months old.
I was ninja'd.... I'll try those virus programs out, see what happens. Can I run them in safe mode?

Either download the packages from another device and send them via external device, or connect the phone and use the internet on it with a Tether.

Here's an update. I ran Malwarebytes, and it found a bunch of PUP files in Google Chrome, and I got rid of those, but I don't think those are the issue. It must be something non-malware or non-virus-related that is causing the problem.
