My theory is that it boosted the popularity of the Scorpion Striker Battlepack .

Don't forget that spyro and tree Rex each got a #1 fan also.

Zap's Fan came out a while before that pack was released

Zap was the anomaly. All the other #1 fans related to skylanders with at least 2 variants in-game. I was sorry they stopped doing them because they were a great way to get a good bonus on an otherwise average skylander.

I believe the reason they chose Zap was because he's the second free character that was given away when the game first started.

Well Tree Rex and Spyro are obvious no brainers . Both superstars and mascots , multiple variants and free with starter .

I know there are 8 elements in the game, but when you think about the basics (Earth Air Fire Water) the #1 fans sort of cover them.

Water and fire are self explanatory.

Earth/land = life (tree rex)
Air/Flight = dragon (Spyro)

it might make sense in a "overall" sort of way. Especially since Spyro and Tree Rex are the kind of superstars that would have fans

We may never know why we got the ones we got. I'm under the belief that they had intended to make more, but they didn't sell that well. At one time, they weren't that cheap. They kept coming down until they reached 25 gems and even free at one point. Only then did people seem interested in buying them. They soon discontinued them all together, although they have come back once or twice (which isn't really often since it's been a year or so since they left the islands.)

I agree with Obidawsn. I think there was an intent for more, but they gave it up as a failed experiment. I can't remember what they initially cost, but I remember just laughing at it wondering why anyone would pay that price for a companion that only helps one skylander. Then they gave Spyro's fan for free - sort of a try this one, and you'll want to buy the others. And that did make me interested enough to buy the others when they dropped to 25 gems. Not sure why they gave them all for free at one point, but I can only guess that even at 25 gems they didn't sell well.

A shame really. Now that I'm at a higher level, I'd be more interested in this sort of companion.

Conversely for me I no longer have any use for them. I have so many swappers, giants, minis and alter egos already with 25%+ bonuses that I don't have anyplace to use Spyro, Zap or Hot Dog. If they had fans for the swappers, I'd buy them. But fans for regular skylanders wouldn't do much for me any more.

I'd like to have more. I hardly ever use any of my cores except for Spyro, Zap and Hot Dog because of their fan bonuses. Having more might give me use for some others.

As a newer player, I bought them all at 25 gems. Seemed a decent price to pay to elevate earnings, when I needed it. I still make use of them in sanct's.

Yes most of the time i have them working in the sanctuaries too . After you got them Mabu fan,s it seems like a waste if you dont play with them .
