Ok, so I purchased the Metallic/Purple Variants of Lightening Rod and Eye-Brawl from eBay.
Both were from established sellers, and both were brand new packaging.
Neither package looked to be tampered with by my eyes.
Now, here is well I get worried.
1. Both sticker sheets that were inside the package did not have a DOT on them like other variants, and two, they both appeared, as to the best of my ability to relate the condition, appeared to be wrinkled.Basially the sticker sheet are intact and everything, but they aren't flat and new looking. They have like creases over them in certain places. I don't know what this could be atrributed to, as I haven't ever had that happen over opening any of my other figures over the course of collecting (I have over 200 figures).
2. Now, here where things get *wierd*. Both start at level 5, with 2100 coins. Both have the *Rare* tag. Eye-Brawl, appears IN GAME in PURPLE like his figure. (PS4 system). However, Lightening Rod appears as his normal Blue self.
Can anyone that owns these figures or knows a ton about this stuff help me figure this out before I go filing a dispute on eBay to two very high feedback sellers with years of history on eBay and all positive feedback?
EDIT - I am using the PS4 version of Swap-Force. Forgot to add that.

Purple Eye Brawl does not appear purple in the game. If he does, can you please get a screenshot?
They're perfectly normal aside from that "Purple in game" part.. No chase variants have the same color in-game as the figure. I personally own quite a few chase figures, and none of them are like that.

Looks like its just the lighting in that area. Try on the stat page for the Skylander.
If they have the rare tag and the money and such, I would reason they're probably legit. If anyone was trying to fake it, it doesn't make sense for them to try to alter the character...and I dont even know if they could in order to put the "rare" tag on them.

Yes, it looks as if your whites have a purple tint. You can change this on your TV.

No that isn't it. That picture was done using the PS4 itself. It doesn't take a picture of what my personal colors are, it takes the photo straight from the imagine being sent by the ps4.
And it isn't the angle. I can take even more screenshots, and I can even do video since I'm on Ps4. Also, both my other Eye Brawls, normal and Pumpkin, appear with the normal black and silver wings. He is purple and gold everywhere I go in the game. If you want, when I get home, and you either have Facebook or a PS4, I can make a video showing me using normal eye brawl, and then using the purple eye brawl. I can upload it to Facebook, or if you are my friend on PSN you can actually see the video from the "What's New" Feed from friends activity. The only thing I can think of, is about a month ago, Skylanders Swap Force on PS4 was patches to ver. 1.02. All I know is it was a engine update. I am unaware if that had any effect. I also have the ps3 version of swap force, and giants, but that would have to be a picture from my phone as I don't have any capture equipment besides the built in stuff on PS4. I also haven't tried it on any other version I own. I can do this when I get home. But he distinctively has a total purple and gold body, in any light or scene or gameplay, and it's really noticeable when I put regular eye brawl on, as he is defiantly black and gold. Also, my TV is a 4K Ultra Samsung. It's not old tech. I don't have the white balance to high. In fact, I prefer to have the black levels as low as possible, as this gives better contrast. I then adjust my brightness level using the in game settings. So, if you want, I can take more photos, do a video, etc. but he is purple and gold in game. His head DOES light up like a Lightcore character on the portal. I can also test my ps3 version of swap force as well as giants. This could be unique to PS4 and Xbox One, but I don't have an Xbox One to try it. My PSN tag is ZombieLover84 I'm out right now, but will be back home soon. |

Uhm, sorry to say but, that's impossible. There is no coding for any purple eye brawl in the game. It could not be purple in-game as it is not an in-game variant.

Ok, so I am not crazy, but he is not purple in game lol.
After further testing after I got home, I am unsure if it's a glitch with the lightening in the hub area or what, but he is purple and gold all over the hub level. When I got to a stage, he is back to black and gold. It's really freaking wierd. So, yes he was purple lol, but not because of a designed feature. It's now obviously a lightening issue or something. Sorry, but I usually can trust my eyes, and I walked all over the hub with him and he stayed purple. I messed with every single TV setting I could to see if it was that. And then I hopped into an arena challenge and he is back to normal black Eye Brawl. It's really weird. |

If you're planning on plunking down serious cash on variants, invest in a jewelers loupe. Spotty paintjobs and even "pro" repaints have a difficult time duplicating factory finishes. Youll be able to tell in no time any deviations from paint schemes or brushing lines, etc. Just my .02. I got one for like $2 bucks and its in use EVERY time I make a purchase like that. A little common sense, a keen eye, and a loupe goes a long way towards piece of mind.
