Looks like uttster13 is getting fame with his story. I like how he's attention, but how do I get attention with my story?

Don't make the posts so long? Make less big blocks of text?

For a start-interesting title
Then-storyline that will make people want to read on
And finally-paragraphs

I did the paragraphs, but I thought the title would be catchy enough. I thought the storyline would also be okay.

You learn how to write a good story, THEN you learn how to write a good fanfic. The catchiness is a side effect.

It also involves not relying on gimmicks to make it get someone's attention.

I actually wrote a short story as an 8th grade project. It was so long, that if I asked my teacher if she read it, she'll say that she hasn't read it, yet.

Everyone has no same speech pattern. Only similar (unless we talking about dopplegangers than that's a different story.) patterns. Everyone has an accent. Like Antionne D'Coollette, he's a french sounding coyote in the Sonic comics. He usually "Ze" for "The" and occasionally speaks in French. Just saying make sure the characters you are using don't sound exactly the same.

Try not to be too cliche coded. Cliches just crash and burn a writer's story, so try to avoid using them. If you do use one make it work in the best way possible.

You have to have...

1. An original idea. If you do something like someone else, then people will feel like they've already read it, and it could upset the author.
2. Some interesting characters. The story is a big part, but the characters make it loveable. Use characters that have cool powers and different emotions and attributes. Like in mine, I have a Spanish Boomer, and a character that has factory errors such as exploding when they say their catchphrase.
3. A great plot! The plot is the glue to everything else. If it's too weak, the everything will fall apart.

And be sure not to contradict yourself. If you add in something that basically denies something else, it'll make it hard to understand.
Also, don't put in random things that don't make sense.
And one last thing, be sure to post chapters often. If you don't, your topic will be lost, and no one checks the topics at the bottom.

Hopefully this has helped! If you have any more questions, be sure to PM me! smilie

Long stories don't make them good, actually that makes people even more bored if your story isn't good to begin with.

Bifrost is right again [/blunt]

If you want an "easy" (and fun!) way to learn about story cliches, Loco, go read TV Tropes. I don't need to direct you to any particular pages- just click random, then when you get to your random article, click every link to a trope that you haven't heard of. Heavy dose of Tropes Are Tools mentality is recommended while reading. It won't make you a professional writer instantly, but if you learn about tropes you may become less ignorant to anything you might be writing poorly, and you'll become more Genre Savvy which will help your creativity- if you understand tropes and use them and twist them right, to tie things together well. TROPES. ARE. FREAKIN'. TOOLS.

P.S. I've never read one of your fanfics because they don't sound interesting, in general the fanfics on this site aren't exactly known for their great quality and I don't like how you ramble on for too long about SL sometimes (the Walls of Text make me doubt that you could write a story well). I'm not giving info based on what I've seen of your stories, just basic info I think more people should get into if they wanna write as a hobby while making fairly enjoyable stuff.

You know you just ruined several kids' afternoons now, Arc? They don't know enough about it to not make over 30 tabs off stuff that sounds interesting there! D:

But in all seriousness, yeah that place can help if you have an idea of what you want to write, too. Check the trope you want to make use of, research a LOT with similar tropes and works that used it, and sometimes you might even find users that react to it negatively or positively because not everyone is good at keeping the bias away from articles. But don't overuse the terms because it's more annoying than anything if someone doesn't use TV Tropes, and try not to go to the mentality of the more tropes, the better. Many works get away with being troperrific as part of their appeal, but it can backfire horribly.

@Bifrost Haha, I usually don't use "Trope Lingo" but I can't resist it when I do bring up TV Tropes. smilie

This, also, which I actually read before visiting this thread but forgot to link to after spending a while on TV Tropes... http://imgur.com/a/MRfTb
