I know this may sound kind of stupid and petty to y'all, but I found out that my favorite photograph isn't even authentic. Apparently it's a staged photo taken in 2007 for some competition. It's supposed to depict Russian soldiers preparing for the Battle of Kursk in July 1943. I even made it my avatar, as you can see...
I really am upset... I still love it, but it has totally crushed me... like, you have no idea ._.

It must really suck to feel like that... but look at it on the bright side, you must thank it's author for making such a brilliant and realistic photo ;3

It is a lovely photo, but I really wanted to find out the story behind it, too. Apparently being religious like that was a no no in Russia at the time, so that made the photo pretty interesting. I also wanted to try and find out who the soldiers were and if they survived. No wonder I wasn't able to find much information about the photo... But I'm so depressed now...

You thought a photo with staging like that came from a battle in 1943? It's too perfect to be shot during the heat of battle.

I said they were "preparing" for battle. Pretty sure that would mean before the battle is taking place lol And anyway you would be surprised how perfect a photo can turn out when the timing is just right
