So I've just scored a Trap Shadow figure, except the bottom half doesn't seem to register... the Trap half works fine, but the portal just will not recognize the Shadow part. Any tips? Fixes? Or did I just get a bung figure?

Make sure the contacts on the magnets of the bottom half are completely clean. Other than that, I don't know how to help you.

Alright, I seem to have fixed him by, well, putting a topless base on the portal at the same time, which seems to have made the "Shadow" portion go "Oh, right, I'm supposed to work.".

Or perhaps the base got cleaned, or the magnets? I'm still half afraid he's going to flake on me again, but for now.

Actually now I'm curious, does anyone know about this? Are Figures turned 'off' before being released and I got a Trap Shadow which was only half triggered? What gives?

I'm happy it's not broken, but, now I'm curious as to why this worked.

Essentially, they have no ownership data, but no, they aren't turned off. That's why they work on the Portal displays.
