This could be really good or really bad. Given Activisions focus on "The Kids" , I'm guessing this has a huge potential to dissapoint adult collectors.

I love the fact he says more than once what I said before...

"When done right" Basically a cheap no-script budget CGI animation knocked out as a cash-in would bomb and bring down the whole franchise.

Somebody wants to actually put some money behind it and write a good script? OF COURSE they would be open to that!

I can't see it happening myself. Toys never get Movies, I mean Look at Transformers, wait, I mean My Little Pony urm nope, I meant Care Bears wait! I can find one if you wait! Lego? Dammit!

Nah, lots of kids movies have been targeted at families lately. Look at Wreck It Ralph and the LEGO Movie, they did incredibly well in theatres.

I don't think this will disappoint. Humor plus action equals fun for the family.

It would definitely give a better chance to give the back stories for there characters. I know there is a lot of people that just play and like there figure for whatever reason, being strength, look or whatever other reasons they come up with. Having the back stories be brought out could in turn have more kids interested in certain ones and make the franchise more money at the same time. Movies always draw in interest from areas that they didn't have before. We all know as collectors and fans of Skylanders what it is we love or like, but for most parents they only see them as an expense to keep there kids happy. By giving the characters names and stories it makes it more appealing to a wider audience. Just my two cents.

It wouldn't be hard to come up with an idea. The problem is too MANY characters.

If they want to bring up interest they could hold competitions to pick which Skylanders make it into the movie, vote on which one is the main character, maybe pick names etc.

I bet there is already fan-fiction for Skylanders out there smilie

I would say Disney and Pixar movies have been traditionally good at this. But, for every kids movies I have enjoyed, I have had to sit throgh 2 or 3 that I have not because the content is too... kiddy. Particularly in the direct to video space.

While the idea of a Skylanders movie would definitely be really cool, this is why I would MUCH rather see a Skylanders TV show instead. They could focus each episode on one character, or a group of 2 to 4 different Skylanders that they always rotated out, that way each one got a chance in the spotlight. It would be cool to see some more of their backstories as well.

Although who knows? Maybe if they did end up with a Skylanders movie, it would eventually lead into a TV show. It's not uncommon for that to happen, similar to what they did with How to Train Your Dragon.

Interesting. Maybe I should get to writing and see if I can't show someone at Activision what a Skylanders script could look like.

My kid would love this. Doom Stone probably wouldn't make it in the final theater cut...but maybe they could sneak him in on the extras or as an extended edition when it comes out on blu-ray/dvd.

I can see it being like a lego movie-like plot.

where everything is from their perspective up until this one point where a hero (spyro presumably) discovers a human world.

Funny, because when I found this article I instantly thought of you. I was wondering if you would chime in on this thread. I think you could do a great script for it.

They can make alot of skylanders movies like how pokemon did, they can introduce some skylanders in each movies they make because for sure others wouldn't want to see just 1 movie of skylanders and end it there, of source others would want to see more.

I would only be happy with this if Spyro was the main character. I couldn't watch the other Skylanders steal the spotlight of him, seriously! smilie

This is a change as they said before that they weren't interested. Of course, I believe they were too concerned with the story and it taking away from the games.

After the Trap Team preview I almost liked the idea of starting out in a human world and having them discover the Skylanders and play a role in the story (much like Neverending Story). Then again, seeing a story just in the Skylands (maybe a prequel before they were sent to Earth) would be good.

Didnt tfb say a long time ago they specifically did not want a movie or tv show. They wanted to keep skylanders a video game only. I'm totally for it, but if activision did push a movie or tv showe into existence, isnt that like giving tfb the long middle finger.

I doubt there would be a Skylanders movie but a Minecraft movie however, that sounds so awesome!

They could easily do it based on each game. Kind of like they do for books. They have a huge story that goes between them but have there own book for say for the movie. Take the first game and make a movie around what was happening then and then move on from there adding the people as they go. I mean they had Eon give a little back story before you start each game. Its the same thing but instead of a short back story he give the full story. Just let it play out like the game does. Shoot they could even just make the movies about the time in between the games. That way it doesn't take away from the games and there story. Just adds more to the overall story.

They should NOT base a movie on the games.

Use the characters, the locations and the lore, but if they base it on the game story? Its dead in the water right now.

They could do a story using stuff from SSA the basic concepts etc.

I would hope its sort of like the smurfs movie somewhat as in we can see a bunch of skylanders moving around etc but there is a set few that go on the adventure etc maybe in our world.

The only problem I see is that they'd have to essentially start from scratch (i.e. only the core characters) but the Skylanders mythos has gotten larger now with the Giants, Swap Force and now Trap Team.

However, that's only if they want to bother with them which, IMHO, they really shouldn't. Just keeping it at core characters is good enough, besides, each special faction had a game dedicated to them.

I agree, Have alot of skylanders at the begining of the movie and then have a few (5-6) take a road trip and get caught in what ever comes up. Kind of like Hangover (Kids version though).
